Apologies if this has been posted before, but I only ran into it this week. Thought the lead singer's face was unfamiliar... it's not John Gary Williams, as John himself explains in the comments to the clip:
"That's my voice and I wrote the song but that's not me in that video that's a guy named Sam Nelson who was my replacement in the group while I was in serving my country in the United States army in the Vietnam War, William Brown was also drafted and served in Vietnam, his replacement in the group was Quince Billups, after our commitment in the military was completed returned to the mad lads and the rest is history. "

Don't even think about apologising for posting this. I love this group - i own two best of cds with different track listings. Sweet, sweet soul music.I was vaguely familiar with this story from reading the sleeves notes on the cds but it is good to hear it from the horses mouth as it were.
Great stuff and thank you so much for posting!!

Though I've seen that video dozens of times before I still enjoy watching it because of their
excellent job of lip syncing and both smooth and animated choreography. Actually a long
while ago, forum member Nosey talked about those stand ins while John Gary was in Vietnam.
The thing I've always wondered was what Sam Nelson actually sounded like not lip syncing
but in his own voice. Not that it matters today to the group's legacy, just being...no pun
intended...nosey....
