I was just wondering if anyone knows what the last CD release that Hip O Select made available for sale? Was it the Marvelettes?

It seems as though there may never be any further CD releases by them so it would be interesting to see a complete listing of every Motown related CD that the Hip O Select has released.

Hi

I posted a listing of the Motown releases thru HipO some time back. Not too sure how to find the thread in the archives though!

The list is impressive. Sad person that I am, out of the 82 I counted in the list, I have 60.

Of the remaining 22 I really want to obtain 8 more [[not interested in Rick James or Teena Marie for example) but true to form the ones I want retail at well over the odds! I will get them when I see them at reasonable prices - I suppose there's always the download option - NOT.

You've got me beat, I only have 50.

Of the other 32 I'm only casually interested in 6 of them. I have the vinyl for those, and none of them were favorites, so I would only get them if they were gifted to me.

Come to think of it, I probably already have the vinyl to the 50 that I did buy from Hip-O! Doh!

Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On [[40th Anniversary)" was not part of the HipO-Select releases, even though I showed it as one on my listing!

Can be hard to think what was and was not a Hip-O release - for example Diana [[1980 Chic) album deluxe edition, Motown Treasures [[original single CD) and the original lost & founds [[Tempts, Tops, Gaye, Miracles) weren't but maybe they pre-date Hip-O?

What surprised me a short while ago was the use of the Hip-O-Select logo on the back cover of one of Martha Reeves and The Vandellas CDs - I think it was the "Gold" set and could only have been on a USA edition. I noticed it in HMV and whilst I looked I couldn't see it on other artist's "Gold" sets. Can anyone with a USA copy of Martha's issue confirm that the Hip-O logo is on the back cover?

Actually, the link below seems to confirm the Hip-O connection. There are also some interesting tracks and mixes on this set. http://www.discogs.com/Martha-Reeves-The-Vandellas-Gold/release/1236268

My USA Copy does not mention Hip-O anywhere on the cover, on the CD or in the booklet.

The discogs link mentions "Made in the EU". My CD and CD cover show "Manufactured and Printed in the Phillipines".

Yes it can only be on the US version of Martha Reeves & The Vandellas "Gold".

I have Martha Reeves & The Vandellas "Gold" and it has a logo Hip-O Records which is not the same as Hip-O Select.
Also missing from the list is Teena Marie Wild & Peaceful which is the only one I don't have.
So the list is still at 82 as Marvin Gaye's 40th Anniversary What's Going on is not Hip-O Select.

My MR&V Gold was a gift so I guess my CD is not a US version since it was manufactured and printed in the Phillipines. Knowing my friend's buying habits, I assume it was purchased online.
