Listening now.

Wonder if Mr Gordy will visit Mary's concert tonight in London.

If Berry Gordy has any sense, he will attend. ;)

And, in addition to his voice, I think Craig Charles has a face which may be quite familiar to you , Marv....

I enjoyed the interview. Mary is always a pleasure to listen to.

Motown fans have been lucky this past week or so. Brenda Holloway, Contours Kim Weston, Berry Gordy, Mary Wilson...and the Velvelettes....we've done really well

It was good to hear Berry Gordy speak so warmly of us on this side of the Atlantic, in his interview earlier today with Graham Norton.

Especially when he named 'Baby Love' as the record which changed everything for him, by being made No. 1 over here. To him, that meant not only America but the rest of the world had opened its arms to the Motown sound.

Mary seems to say the same about the impact of Baby Love in the UK in her interview with Craig Charles.

I have a press cutting somewhere, written by a music journalist who phoned Motown to tell them that 'Baby Love' was No 1. here as well as in the US, and wrote that the phone line crackled, and then he heard people shouting "They've done it! They've really done it!!".

The Supremes were described at the time as 'unsuppressingly jubilant'. ;)

Was that in Record Mirror

Now you're asking me something.

I'll have to check. It should be in a big box, with a taffeta ribbon tying it shut, ever since the lock broke, because I started to overfill it....

Might be the Alley Cat in NME.......remember that?

New Musical Express was the first music trade paper I ever bought. Think I heard about it on Radio Luxembourg, or maybe via someone at school [[my teacher in Spanish caught me reading it during lesson once. He didn't confiscate it until later; he tore it up....!)

I first heard about Motown artists through NME, with news and reviews of the releases on the Oriole label from The Contours, Mary Wells, Martha & The Vandellas, Miracles and more....

When did it have the prefix New added to Musical Express.

In 1952. It was formerly "Accordion Times and Musical Express", bought just before closure that year [[how many people had accordions even in the early 50s?!) and immediately relaunched as 'New Musical Express'.

If anyone in the UK is reading this, Mary is due to be interviewed on Sunday Morning Live with Sian Williams on BBC1, currently on air....

They are talking about designing babies now....I think I've missed it. What did she say WGB.

She was performing at Wembley last night so she must be exhausted

Saw it.

I wasn't happy with most of the questions. So much to talk to her about and there was just the same old questions.

Now, I actually thought it was a very nice interview, recorded earlier. We're used to hearing the same information but, for those who are not so familiar with Mary's life and career, I felt it was thoughtful, yet still with a laugh or two.

Not as much of the usual "I'm here to promote..." patter.

And answering a question about losing Rafael, and learning to cope....

You go, Mary....;)

I thought that question was in bad taste. Wasn't happy about it at all.

Wouldn't topics perhaps be discussed and agreed before interviews...?

No need if the interviewer is respectful and knows his stuff. The interviewer was reading questions from an IPAD.

He was pretty shocked when she said..I pray when I have sex! But she dealt with it magnificently because it threw him completely. Now that was a "GO MARY"

I wished that they would not talk to her about that.
