Gladys Knight completely killed last night at the Hollywood Casino, Toledo, OH along with the O'Jays. She brought the house down several times . It was like watching and listening to a hologram of her from over 30 years ago! LOL! She looked and sounded that amazing. Slim, trim and sexy. Her voice was clearer and more powerful than I remember when I first saw her with the Pips decades ago.

I really was expecting a run in the mill show [[well not quite), but Gladys weaved many life's lessons through her golden hits and sang some songs by others. One major highlight was her duet with Eddie Levert during her set. They performed "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey in tribute to their Jimmy Newman, Gerald & Sean Levert who have passed. Standing ovation! Brother Bubba Knight did an equally amazing rap and dance number during Gladys' set that made me question whether or not these people were real, did they ever age? LOL!

The Empress of Soul delivered on all counts. If you get the chance to see her and the phenomenal O'Jay's.......DO IT! They have not lost a thing!!!

Don't know why you were expecting a run of the mill show. Gladys has lost none of her vocal power and always puts on a stellar show. I saw her in the UK a couple of months ago and she was awesome. I'm glad you enjoyed her show as much as i did.

Luke she looked like she was in her mid to late 30's! I had to keep remembering that this was a woman of 71 singing before me.

I meant, i have seen Gladys many times over the years. Last night show seemed truly special. I loved that she closed out with "Let the Church Say Amen" by Marvin Winans.

Marv, I don't know why you were expecting a run of the mill show lmao

I've seen clips of recent performances on YouTube and she outdid it every time she performed! Lol but I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

Bubba's just as ageless as his kid sister lol :)

I get what you were trying to say. I have seen Gladys perhaps 15 times over the past 40 years or so and every time i go to see her i kind of fear i will witness a slightly less than perfect show. I take into account her age and possible fading vocal powers, but once i see her up on that stage i realise such thoughts are totally redundant and the great lady never fails to blow me away. If anything she seems to get better with age, and i cannot think of any other female performer of her generation who retains such vocal power. I have said it before and i shall no doubt say it again but this lady is the true Queen of soul in my opinion, and i say this as a huge Aretha fan.

Exactly! It was almost surreal seeing Gladys Knight who've I've seen well over 30 years ago look like time had stood still and her vocals were crystal clear and powerful. The way she and Bubba danced it was like they were in their mid-thirties at best. She was just incredible!

What I meant was I knew she'd be good, but I had not seen her in probably 10 years and she was spectacular!!!!

This woman will probably still sound good when she is 80. I wonder if she has taken extra special care of her voice or has she just been very very fortunate? I haven't heard Patti Labelle sing recently but when i last did she sounded pretty good too. Maybe she is the only other contemporary of Gladys who still retains her voice to such a high standard?

Actually Marv i have to agree with you on this one. If i am to be perfectly honest i never really rated Mary as a vocalist until she blew me away on the ballads on the final pair of Supremes albums. I didn't rate her solo album and it wasn't until i saw her live here in the UK around 8 years ago that i realised just how much her vocals had matured and indeed improved. Now i think she would be perfect recording "torch" songs in the way the likes of Sarah Vaughn did. I am really looking forward to this show.

Bettye and I went to see Gladys & The O'Jays a couple of weeks ago in NJ. They were both good, but Gladys stole the show. She looked good and sounded great. Bettye rarely goes out to see live music when she is not working, but wanted to see Gladys as she is one of her favorite female singers. A nice mix of material from through the years, but no reference to the early years which was a little disappointing. Operator, Letter Full of Tears,
SOMETHING from the early 60s would have been nice.

But, yes, she is in great voice.

Kevin you are right! The earliest song she did was "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" from 1967! Miss Bettye would be great at the Hollywood Casino. She is great anywhere, but I know they LOVE her in Toledo, OH!

She performed "take me in your arms and love me" here in the UK recently.
