Howdy there, Motown lovers! Tonight...on "Nightflight"...I'll be playing for you ONLY Motown...yeah...it's been a while! But one must occasionally cleanse the palate to appreciate what one loves MOST! The Motown played will be mostly, if not all, Motown that is rare to radio...album tracks, material not released until well after it's date of production, and "B" sides.
So join me for marvelous Motown not often heard on the air...tonight...on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and webcasting live worldwide at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org) See you on the radio! Thanks! John

"Sweeter As the Days Go By" by Marvin was first on 'From The Vaults' on the Natural Resources label. Robb Klein & Tom Depierro had hoped that this would have been at least a 10 lp series.

I remember making some cassette tapes for you, but can't remember what was on them.

Was in Ptown last week for the parade - so hot - but better than snow!

Forgot to listen to you on the radio last week when I was in Yarmouth. Not sure if I can get you over the airwaves.

Speaking of forgetfulness, the previous week the Tempts and Tops were in Hyannis at the Melody Tent. I had been meaning to check the date they were there so I could go - my schedule is open since I retired in July. Unfortunately and unknowingly, I left the Cape the night they were performing - I could have waited to leave the next morning - damn. Haven't seen either group in years - it would have been fun to check them out.

I'll be back in Ptown before summer is over - hoping to see Varla Jean Merman - haven't seen her in a few years - always fun - remember when I dragged you to her show.

Love Tata "Full Speed Ahead".

Oh, yes, I have that album. Wasn't very fond of it, that's probably why I forgot the Marvin song. A 10 album series would have been interesting back then, although maybe they needed a stronger volume 1. We now know they had better selections in the vaults.

I've always preferred Kiki's version of Johnny Raven.

If you do all 3 simultaneously while coming out unscathed, we'll all be impressed.
But, please don't hit your head nor get a social disease as a result of that stunt.

George Kerr is the first name listed as composer on both versions. There must be quite a story there.
144 man ..what can you tell us?

Methuselah2

Carole - I wish I knew the answer to that one, too, but I haven't been the same since I saw the photo at the very top of this thread--particulary Mary's gray hosiery with those copper-colored shoes. That's art, and Mary did it. Beautiful.

I think it was just too good a tune to waste, so he rewrote the song when he left Motown.

Getting songs as good as Brenda Holloway's "I See A Rainbow" justified signing the Lewis Sisters. Were they really school teachers or was that just a publicity stunt?

It's strange how late at night the old eyes can play tricks on ya'.
Looking again at the initial photo that promoted this thread- and specifically the faces....there something Aretha-ish about Cindy and Florence LaRue Gordon-ish about Diana. But Tex still looks like Mary.
