Just saw this.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/01/entertainment/ben-e-king-singer-obit-feat/index.html

As our music icons leave us, it gives pause for those of us left behind to preserve their memory and cherish those still with us. And by cherish, I do not mean pick petty fights and say nasty things just to provoke. That denigrates the artist and destroys a sense of community and common goal to preserve and cherish our cultural icons.

Oh very good one! The man was a distinct part of the sound of an era coming out of New York City!

Ben E. was far from being a one hit wonder. Here he is in the mid 70s with his monster JAM "Supernatural Thang"...............

When I was but a child I heard this, and I got my mother to buy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j9aDGstcfk it for me, and I am certain it was this record that began my lifelong obsession with soul and R&B

Ah ha! I love it! My childhood most enduring memory of Ben E. King was "I Who Have Nothing" [[see the above) Radio station WKLR 99.9 FM "Kooler Radio" and DJ Al Fredricks out of Toledo, would play it every night for a while it seemed back in the 60s.

Quite so Marv2! Here's a good obituary from to-day's Guardian which you might not have seen. It is right and proper that artists of this stature should be remembered in this way. http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/may/01/ben-e-king

Thanks for the link, Sharpmoves. This is a much more comprehensive obit than The New York Times ran; it really puts Mr. King's cultural value into perspective beautifully.
