I hope she fills the Kings Theater and I wish Gladys Knight well but personnally I wouldnt cross the street to see Miss Knight even if her show was free. She comes across as fake and half her show is her talking and telling 40 year old jokes with Bubba that arent funny IMO.

Perhaps the venue was real empty and they have to move tickets. I see a lot of plays at half price which makes me and my pocketbook real real happy.

However she is a legend and I root for a sell-out! BTW - any truth that she's converted to Mormanism?

I was there. It was a good show, not great. And Gladys was under the weather as well. She mentioned that she when she woke up that morning, she had no voice at all.

I did some sniffing around. Not all seats available are on the map. There are currently three discount offers out there. Perhaps it is too soon after BergenPac, but I wouldn't think so. Gladys has slipped a lot in her drawing power lately. Even in Chicago, her one night at The Chicago Theatre was co-headlined with The Tempts and there was a discount program in place there. Had I not been in Vegas, I'd have seen Gladdy last Sat nite 2 hours SW of Portland at a small casino in Grande Rhond, OR for 60.00 front row. I try to see Gladdy, Queen Qee and Camel Toe Warwick[[e) whenever they come through the Pacfic NW.

Dionne has lost a lot of her voice, but still chastises the audience at every show for not clapping loud and long enough. [["You know, we've ALREADY be paid..........so, if YOU want to have a good time, WE need to have a good time.....") Her tickets are usually very inexpensive and she still is worth seeing. She also, talks WAY too much and brags too much. Don't tell us how great you are: SHOW us.

Miss Ross, since you asked, has taken Las Vegas by storm: selling out every show, dazzling audiences and garnering beyond raving rave reviews in papers as far away as The LA Times. It's a killer venue with excellent acoustics and superb sight lines throughout the theatre. She did a career defining Good Morning Heartache last Friday that I'll never forget.

Oh, YES! I re-watched "Claudine" a while back and the music is just heavenly. I was dissappointed on the audio commentary that James Earl Jones and Diahann Carroll struggled for the length of the film to find things to talk about and never once mentioned the music.

Yes, definitely. Ms. Ross is the Jackie Onassis of the Motown era/set; knows a lot and keeps it to herself. What we used to call a "lady". The others discussed here are all wonderful talents and deserve their place in the pantheon, but the chastising behavior of Ms. Warwick [[which I had friends complain of DECADES ago) is just - not professional. I did see Dionne live once, at Carnegie Hall at the very beginning of her "I'll Never..." comeback and she was superb. I prefer to keep that memory.

As much as I love Gladys, I think $100 at regular price is a bit steep for any artist. I saw her several years ago in Niagara Falls and paid $70 for front row. The place was sold out and it was a great show. Since then, she's come back a few more times to the same venue. She did two consecutive nights last summer and I believe they also sold well. She still has an excellent voice that has not aged much over time. When I saw her, she barely did any talking in between songs. I personally prefer a bit of banter. It makes me believe the artist is trying to make a connection with the audience and wants to be there.

Gladys also did Vegas a few years ago and had her own room/residency at the Tropicana. Does anyone remember how that did? I think she was there for at least a few months? She definitely still has the power to pull in the audiences. I think every legend has had difficulty selling a show every now and then. Some may even have to cancel an entire tour.

Gladys played the Trop on and off for about 5 months. It wasn't the success that she or the management of the Tropicana had hoped for. Some nights the intimate showroom was filled to capacity and other Evenings she was playing for 30 paying customers and 50 comped Casino winners. The showroom was dismally outdated and in desperate need of a complete overhaul which it got when Hilton purchased the Tropicana in 2012. I saw the Gladys Knight Show "A Mic and a Light" twice during its run at the Trop and I personally felt it was too much Bubba and not enough Gladys. There was also a very harried, badly thrown together Motown tribute that was borderline embarrassing. When Gladys sang her classics she was truly spectacular but in between her gloriously performed hits there was endless banter that bored most of the audience. I spoke to Gladys at length after one of her shows and we discussed the many challenges of playing casinos. I was told she was terribly sad when they closed her show as she really wanted to work in her adopted hometown rather than a life on the road.

I think Gladys Knight could have another shot at a Vegas residency. The woman has the most remarkable voice but she needs to cut familial ties and hire a writer and producer IMHO.

I saw Miss Ross at that Niagra casino in 2007 and the tix were rather high, but I went to both since I had gone so far. Maybe Gladys has gotten the hint to STFU and just sing. I'm all for banter with the audience, but not being lectured on awards won and honors bestowed. If I could sing like Gladys, I'd let my singing brag for me- not my words.

It is a shame about Mary's cancelled tours - but only two really were cancelled outright. The Lena Horne tour never really materialized as they expected and just do odd dates as they pop up. Only a few have been cancelled. Sophistiicated Ladies #1cancelled 'cos it just cost too much for Mary's name power although it did well in Cerritos and filled the bingo hall at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, OR. Sophisticated Ladies #2 was a mess with all that scab labor and lawsuits with The Duke's family. Mary still wants to to try it out again - but way scaled down - as she knows she can still nail the material. I hope it works out for her.

I was thinking the same thing, but she had drawing issues at The Flamingo also, and discounting a split bill in Chicago means she has slipped. Period. Still, with two Motown shows running perpetually on the strip, I have to think the real thing would have to draw. Maybe Gladys, The Tempts and Brenda or Martha or Mary . Bring a 2 hour show 5x a week of Motown legendary names - it would have to pull.

if I were Mary, I'd do a tight, 70 minute hybrid of my two shows and book it into a lounge on the strip and let it build from there. I saw Nell Carter at The D.I. in the lounge and she was a smash. It prolly held 125 or so, and that's cool to start with. I think Mary could easily build a rep as a good show and run forever that way.

... which brings up a point I've always wondered about, which is why the Motown artists "band together" more for live shows? Smokey Robinson had a concert in NYC recently and basically every radio station was giving away tickets every hour 2 weeks prior to and right up to day-of-show - so I assume sales were slow. I think a "Smokey Robinson with the Velvelettes and special guest star Martha Reeves" would be a much greater draw. Is it simple economics, jealousy, corporate shenanigans? Anybody know? Look how good the Tops/Temps double bill does, for example -
