NBC's next live musical is "The Wiz," the 1975 Broadway hit that became a 1978 movie with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.
"The Wiz," which follows "The Sound of Music" and "Peter Pan" on NBC, will air Dec. 3, NBC said Monday. Craig Zadan and Neal Meron return as producers, joined by the new stage theatrical division of Cirque du Soleil.
After its premiere on NBC, "The Wiz" will return to Broadway for the 2016-17 season.
Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon will helm both the NBC production and the Broadway revival, with new material from Harvey Fierstein
