Nice post, before their funk days the parliments were a very good soul group.

I just might have witnessed the landing of the Mothership Jai...My group, The Strides were performing a show at a club called Ken Bells [[a Detroit DJ) Casino Royale. It was just before I graduated high school, late 67 or January 68 and it was a school night and I remember that my mom and dad came to that show. Just before we went on stage, we looked out and saw a group of hippie type flower children circulating thought the audience passing out flowers at all the tables ???...We wondered what the hell was going on until we recognized them as The Parliaments, a group we had performed with in the past, but they always wore suits then. They had completely changed their mojo and we just figured they were going with the new trend...Thinking back, it was a bit surreal...

that's a cool story, StuBass. I bet Clinton would remember that too.

True Jai...Hendrix was gaining recognition, Sly was about to bust loose, and the musical culture was changing...I also recall [[perhaps this belongs on a Temptations thread) my friend Paul Williams advising me to stay away from "mixed" [[racial) groups around that time just before Sly hit big. I was playing with R&B groups, but looking back, I think Paul realized that the white acts were making more money and had a larger audience subset than black artists and was trying to tell me to go where the money was...

I think that was the year that the term[phychadelic sixties]really took off,out went tuxedoes and in came loud shirts and bellbottom jeans, music stopped being nice and started being gritty seems everybody was angry about anything dealing with the establishment.
