He had a Top 40 Hit on Dimension Records in 1963 with Little Eva "Swinging On A Star". Also on Dimension "Happy Being Fat" with great bg vocals by the Cookies. Not a politically correct song at all,LOL

He Was also the lead singer of The Pastels on Argo Records, who had a big hit with "Been So Long". He also had a lot of 45s released on many other labels.

Dang!...Why the heck didn't I know that? I have Been So Long on a doo wop
compilation disc I've had for over 20 years now. The fact that he was sometimes backed by The Cookies is a cherry on the top for me:)...

I remember seeing him on a local American Bandstand type show in Miami in 1963 called Saturday Hop. He performed both Swinging On A Star and Happy Being Fat, which he said Gerry Goffin wrote for him cause he always seemed so happy. I think the host of the show was a dj named Rick Shaw and local kids were the dancers. It was about a two-hour show every Saturday and they always had some good guest performers.

A lot of great songs from this guy and his group. A lot of his early songs remind me of Billy Stewart.

How ironic is this! My buddy Dennis took me to my doctor 's apptment yesterday and he had a complilation cd that had "so far away" on it. Thanks to this thread, i w

as able to tell him that Dee Irwin was singing, the former leader of the Pastels. Boy do i ki love this forum .

Please excuse my typos. I'm still trying to master this tablet and can't figure out how to make corrections.

For anyone who may not know : He also put out a weird album in 1972 under his a/k/a name, Dee Ervin, "Dee Ervin Sings".
It wasn’t weird because it was musically poor or odd, just that it only came out in the UK on the almost completely unknown Signpost label with a truly dreadful cover, under a name, Dee Ervin, that would have had no recognition whatsoever. I shudder to think how few copies it sold.
