Pierre Lewis. Who is he?

I was reading the Washington Post and came across an article regarding 1980's Minneapolis. In the article it stated that Pierre Lewis was a member of the Commodores. Does anyone recall Pierre being in the group? Could it possibly be after the majority of the Commodores that we are familiar with left the group, could he have been a replacement?
