Blueskies, she's probably 250 lbs., 5' 1" and has a moustache. And she'll either give you a finger or an extra tight squeeze.

Arrr & Bee...........she'll probably make you drop your drawers so she can see for real!

I never knew this would be so much fun.

A big part of me wishes a lot of you guys would go for the pat down.

I heard an interview with the former Director of Security at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, one of the safest airports in the world. He says that the American approach is all wrong and that he could get enough explosive through a scanner to blow up a 747 Jet ~ he wouldn't say how, but he said he could do it. He says they are looking for a 1 in 10 Million Man and profiling is the right way to go and everyone gets the same profiling. Before you can get on a plane at Ben Gurion airport, you go through at least 3 interviews; they look you in the eye, watch you, watch your body movements and how you answer their questions. He says that is the correct approach.

Shortly after 9/11 some wise person said if we change, then they've won. You can guess what I'm thinking.

Rob, the way they do it in Israel is the first thing I thought of.

The first reason the Israeli way won't work here is that U.S. Americans don't like communication. Privacy is in our collective psyche, our Constitution. We don't want to ask or answer questions. We seem to think it is a god-given right to fly a plane, and the corporate-run airlines don't want anything to stand in the way of their profits.

The second problem is that we Americans don't think. Instead of doing things with thought and intelligence, we do things with half-assed ideas and brute force. We don't treat people like human beings, but cattle being herded and branded.

We humiliate people with public displays of virtual strip-body searches. We blacklist people by name, and profile by looks.

True, the U.S. hasn't had much experience with terrorism, but the U.S. is also a bad student. The U.S. is too proud to look to outside examples because the U.S. thinks it's always right.

One could say that the means justifies the end, since the U.S. has not had any domestic attacks since 9/11, but is that because of the body searches and porno-scans? No. It is because of the network of intelligence...in other countries.

The enemy knows all of this, and that's why they've already won the war. After one attack on 9/11, and all they really have to do is sit back and laugh.

I love the U.S., and it is my country. I just wish those in charge would get it right.

"you go through at least 3 interviews; they look you in the eye, watch you, watch your body movements and how you answer their questions. He says that is the correct approach."

I think it would take forever to do something like that. Ever been in huge airport lines? Remember the airports days after 9-11? But yeah, they need to do searches.
So let them feel you up, you might enjoy it.

Gary your response comes closest to dealing with reality. The main reason the Israeli approach will not work here is because Americans will not wait all day to board a plane every trip waiting for hundreds, thousands of people to be interviewed. We are a much larger country with many more airline passengers than Israel.

Yep, with my luck, Rob......your description is probably giving her the benefit of the doubt. A finger, huh? Is that an ouchie?

jobeterob

Yes, the finger would be the ouchie finger. But heck, some guys, some people would love that, especially some of the best Supremes fans.

I wondered about numbers of people and my wife asked the same question when I told her about the interview; but the guy was the FORMER Director of Security at Ben Gurion Airport and he seems to think the scanner and the feel ups are the wrong way to go.

CNN says it looks like this protest has fizzled.

Who wants to stand in, create, or contribute to long lines and delays at a busy time; you might not like it but you just want to get where you are going.

Four years ago, my heart rhythm went crazy and I now live with a pacemaker/defibrillator in the chest. If planes are in my present, there is no choice about what's going down. I don't like the hand searches, but they beat the long drive alternative where it's an option. In traveling abroad and comparing TSA methods to those employed by other countries, the TSA is much more thorough. This applies even though the actions are not done in a uniform manner either in the same airport or across the country. On a recent trip to Australia, the security was so laid back at four airports it was almost non-existent. Reality slammed home returning yesterday with both a hand search and the f*&#^!g full-body scan. A tight connection after clearing immigration & customs didn't leave any time for making a statement. I don't necessarily find the security offensive, but having someone's uninvited hands all over the underwear I'm wearing gets old. I just want to be able to find myself geographically where I need to be and this unfortunately is part of the cost.

The whole thing is idiotic beyond belief. At best, it's designed to prevent something that already happened. While your nether regions are being probed by legitimised perverts and some distant cowardly creeps are undressing you on a screen, anybody who might be called a 'terrorist' is laughing himself hoarse at the sight of it.

Why is everyone having such a problem with the pat-down? If your'e a man.... you get just as much touching of your privates if you went out for wrestling in high school or college, or if you have ever gone to a tailor and had him measure your inseam. You let your doctor touch you, and usually it's a glove on naked flesh... this is a gloved hand over CLOTHING. what's the big deal? Is everyone's bullshit modesty more important than thier safety? I just got through watching football players slapping each other on the ass, we can do it for sports, but not to save our own lives? Please. And you think profiling is the answer? Are you willing to bet your life that all terrorist activity will be caused by Middle eastern men? Tell that to the people who died in the Oklahoma City bombing... Timothy McVeigh was scrawny, white guy.

Profiling never worked, and neither does this gratuitous molestation.

We have a moronic government traffic program in the UK that is theoretically designed to stop motorists being involved ehwn motorcyclists kill themselves. Right in the middle of nowhere, a sign proclaims 'Think Bike'. While you're thinking about a bik, you crash into a combine harvester. The best way for you and anyone else to stay safe on the roads is to quit thinking and LOOK.

While the security types are playing with your parts and eyeing up your deodorant for confiscation, they have no awarness of anything odd that might be occurring around them. They're too busy concentrating on ill-conceived 'profiles' and the latest cockamamie 'system' to do their job and spot things out of the ordinary.

Our only hope is that the so-called terrorists are either laughing too much to do any harm, or decide we have suffered enough at the hands of our own people.

It's hard to imagine a greater victory for an middle eastern agitator than to see westerners taking off their clothes in public and touching each other up. The sign above departures should read 'Hello Suckers.'

I'll bet you won't hear any complaints now. It didn't happen on a plane, but it's a sure fire reminder of what we're dealing with.

All terrorists have to do to win their war is launch an occasional plot--doesn't necessarily have to succeed. There will be enough panic strickened Americans who will cower in fear after the reports comes out and demand that more freedoms and liberties be eroded in the name of "security". Benjamin Franklin said it best "Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither".

there is another way.have no security checks and take the consequencies.

you've been there and look what happened.

all security checks close a door (a means to carry out an attack).the terrorists will look for another door.a new check is devised and a new door is looked for.ad infinitum

you can quote people in history to illustrate your argument 'till your blue in the face.the extremists are trying to get in through the slightest gap in our security.one day somewhere they will succeed because apart from the time they have to plan, they are not under any time constaints, money isnt a problem, distance isnt a problem.and the biggest most dangerous part of their armoury is they are suicidal, you cant beat that, they dont care what happens to themselves only the successful outcome to the planned attack.
the civil liberties groups can talk about the big brother state, these people are music to the extremist's ears.imo they are a threat to my safety.i want cameras all over the airport from the perimeter road thru to the aircraft passenger door
when i get on a plane all i want to know is that everything that can be done in the name of security has been done.
i dont want to be at 35 thousand feet to see the cockpit leaving the rest of us behind,as happened to pan-am 103 over lockerbie. i dont care,i'll take any security check they want to throw at me i havent got anything to hide.

EXACTLY. For the love of God.... people are acting like a body scanner is such an invasion of privacy, are you telling me none of you ever were naked in front of a total stranger in the locker room? shit.

bankhousedave

Nobody's advocating having no security checks. Increased cameras do not equate to increased vigilance - quite the reverse. If a trained security bod is sitting in a room remote from the action chortling at images of naked citizens he's 100 per cent LESS likely to notice what's going on in the airport. The security official who stole my nail scissors at a Scottish airport would not have prevented Lockerbie. So called terrorists are in it to create an effect. We're certainly giving them what they want.

I have very little good to say for Mother Thatcher, but her one redeeming feature was that she thought our way of life was worth preserving, and would not give the IRA the satisfaction of turning the country into a paranoid police state. Too bad her successors chose to imitate her less endearing qualities and miss the whole point on that one.

your nail scissors were taken to stop some terrorist from gouging out the pilot's and any other crew's eyes out.which has been done!or stuck in the carthid artery ditto. i was talking about a mid air explosion in respect of lockerbie.
btw this is how pan-am 103 broke up...the bomb went off in the forward freight bay.the massive shock wave blew the front off aft of station 41,1 second later both wings torn off.1 second after that tail with the rear fusalage "blew"off rear of center section.3 seconds from the blast to the aircraft becoming 5 large bits.people free failing from 35,000 ft unconsious after the initial blast some drifting in and out of their unconcious state on the way down.i know this because i had 4 friends on the RAF aircraft recovery team (aka "crash and smash")tasked with the recovery of aircraft bits and body parts they got the info from the senior crash investigator
the new scanners are opperated by different people to the normal cctv equipment.there cant be an absolute guarentee that non of any footage wont end up somewhere for later viewing.i assume there will be some kind of non copying software installed.

i wasnt advocating no security i said that because people will accept a certain ammount of checks and because they know nothing about whats really out there or likely to be the latest way of delivering an attack and start kicking up a noise because it doesnt fit with their idea of an attack method.the public know about 10% of what the authorities know.the government (s) dont know more than 50% of what the terrorists are at.thats a massive gap for the agencies to make up and the 10% of what "we" know explains alot of the disquiet as regards security checks
i cant tell you specifics on some airport's security (official secrets act) but when i was going thru' security checks at different airports it beggars belief they were serious about what they were doing.and i've worked at every airport in england and 3 in scotland.i always challenge people for ID if i dont know them or want to know what they are doing in and around where i'm working.
and i know your feelings towards maggie (!) and you are right in what you said.
i can talk about flight safety, security is part of that, and past hi-jacks,air crashes etc 'till I'M blue in the face!

i do agree that racial profiling is a non starter.not all muslims are of middle eastern stock.the largest population of muslims are of far eastern appearence indonesia i think.and what about the white skinned tribe some with blond and ginger hair.probably decsended from the vikings/normans that settled in the med a thousand years ago.there is a major terrorist from syria, blue eyed, white with ginger hair and there fore not in the profile

bankhousedave
11-28-2010, 02:02 PM
And let's not forget that the vast majority of muslims wish us no ill will. Not yet, at least.

Thanks for the work you do, Tamla. I should point out that my nail scissors, which I accidentally took with me, not realising that England to Scotland would be treated as an international flight (I normally drive my washing items from one to the other without interference), had been spotted at Luton on the way there. The security man on that occasion noted that they were buried deep in my packing, that I was a UK citizen and frequent flier with full press accreditation, and intellligently deduced that I was not about to do any damage with them. It was on the way back from Scotland that the official at Inverness decided to steal them. I use the term advisedly as the weasel term 'confiscation' would involve compensation or later return.
