Howdy, Popsicles!!! Well...Ms. Nature is easing on the snow [[thank goodness...there's no place to PUT it)...but she is a COLD Mistress....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! After playing lots of Philly last week, I begged preeminent producer and mix-Master Tom Moulton to come on the show to talk about Philly, Motown and Disco as only HE can...and he agreed! Tom's been on the show before, and I am always grateful when he can share with us his vast knowledge of the music and the artists with whom he has worked so closely. I'm very excited about having Tom on the show....I hope you'll join us...tonight...on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org) Thanks...and see you on the radio!! John

Hi Midnight Johnny, I noticed some of your older shows are on podcasts.
Is it not possible to release all your shows on podcasts? Being from the Netherlands it is rather difficult to listen to your live streams in the middle of the night. We have a 6 hour time difference.

I didn't realize that Quincy Jones' first No.1 hit was with Lesley Gore, "It's My Party".

Quincy Jones' post on a Motown group forum about the passing of Lesley Gore:

I am heartbroken at the news today of the passing of Lesley Gore. I discovered Lesley, almost on a dare, in 1963 when she was 16 years old and I was Vice President of Mercury Records and we would go on to make 16 hit songs together including 'It's My Party,' 'Judy's Turn to Cry,' 'You Don't Own Me,' and 'Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows.' Lesley was an incredibly soulful singer/songwriter even at that young and that was why the world embraced her songs the way it did. It is important to remember that at one point, the only group that surpassed her in the pop charts was The Beatles. It was a privelege to have been a part of Lesley's life personally and professionally from those early days until now, and although I will miss her deeply, her essence will remain with us always through her music.

John, this site claims to have Tom Moulton's original Fire Island mix tape. Can you ask him if indeed this is the original? It opens with Yvonne Fair's "Funky Music Sho Nuff Turns Me On."

Thanks John. That answered my question. I guess it's an original mix tape, but not the first one. I thought they meant it was the very first one. Thanks again for asking!

John [[MidnightJohnny) – Knowing how much you love The Philly Sound, are you familiar with the book "A House On Fire: The Rise And Fall Of Philadelphia Soul" by John A. Jackson? Although published back in 2004, I discovered it and ordered my copy about four years ago. It’s excellent reading, as you can see based on the many favorable Amazon customer reviews. It’s a bit pricey, but worth every penney if you enjoy reading about the behind-the-scenes happenings at Philadelphia International Records, as I’m sure you do! - Gary

A House on Fire is, indeed, a must-read. It's had pride of place on my bookshelf for about 10 years now.

Yeah, absolutely, sansradio. It's must-read material. I'm about due to re-read my copy. The trouble is, I've still got a pile of 8 new books waiting to be read for the first time!
