Martha was certainly the high point IMO on Dancing. I liked how she made them take the music down and she sang to BG. she sounded really good. Great performance. Gotta love Ms. Reeves. Thanks for posting.

This made me revisit Stevie's earlier work. He really is a genius. I have seen him in concert 2x; one being at the FOX in Detroit in the mid 90's. That show is one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I will never forget when he played the drums and literally brought the house down. I am surprised there isn't more interest in this thread given his accomplishments.

We were at that show at the Fox! New Year's Eve 1994-95. One of the all time best shows I have seen. It ran something like 3 hours with Carolyn Crawford performing the intermission in the lobby on the huge , elevated stage.

I'm very much looking forward to this tribute to Stevie. I had no idea they were doing this and have been listening to his albums for the last month or so, just because. There is one song[[s) that I just love and seems to always slip below the radar: Superwoman/ Where Were You When I Needed You. The series of albums from Music Of My Mind through Songs In The Key Of Life are just fantastic. Seminal albums that belong in every collection.

I offer that Songs in the Key of Life is some of his finest work. Back in Detroit I remember how big he was in the late 70's and early 80's. the ladies in Accounts Payable used to play Stevie all day long. Curious to know what everyone here thinks is his finest work. We don't seem to discuss Stevie too much here so be cool to talk about his Motown tenure. To me he was one of first artists to become independent so to speak and take over his own career. Being a multi talented musician, song writer, and performer I am glad he was allowed to carve out his own path. Does anyone know how involved Berry was in his career as his career moved forward? Thanks

Since my mind is gone and I am not near my albums.... Is the bonus 45 on the cd of Songs In The Key of Life? Frankly, I can't remember what song was on the 45. Regarding my favorite Stevie album, it would be a tie between Talking Book and Innervisions. Still, as I said before from Music In My Mind through Songs In The Key of Life are all needed in any collection.

You Thom, I can't remember the bonus song titles now either. My parents bought the album....for themselves. I was allowed to play it. Years later I bought my own copy and was lucky to find one with the bonus 45 as it was a part of the limited edition. I will do a little research to see what I can come up with.

For those from the Detroit area, I remember Stevie coming into Dearborn Music in the dead of winter to test instruments such as the electric piano. My girlfriend called me and said get to the store asap. Stevie was so nice and appreciated the compliments on his music. However, my girlfriend had a fit cause Stevie was wearing this big fox fur coat as she was against fur lol! Even his entourage was fan friendly. I was so lucky so have met so many of the Motown stars by chance living on Detroit. To this day I cant believe how down to earth they were. Once Smokey Robinson stopped an interview in Greek Town to say hi to us! And of course Martha is the best of the best! Anyway I am rambling.......

This reminded me somewhat of what Sun. nights television viewing use to be like when we had variety shows on the networks. I would love to see them create at least one traditional variety show with live performances , but not in a contest setting. I cannot stand the American Idol type shows personally.

I don't believe Martha was even at the event. Beyonce came off a bit too rough sounding and if she doesn't realize it yet, her act can become stale to the public. She looked great though.

Yeah never been a fan of Beyoncé. She looked kinda tacky for this type of event. Actually I thought Tony B was real good. In the end, I actually enjoyed the special. Nice to see Berry there too. Gladys and Mary looked great. I think the choice of entertainers kept the focus on Stevie as nobody was showboating so to speak.

Thomas it was clear that they [[CBS) were going for the younger demographic, even though Stevie Wonder's music is of the 45 yo and up generations music. Marketers always make this mistake. Those kids are not going to rush out or download Stevie's greatest hits, but his fans that's been there for years just might after tonight's refresher.

Despite the crass and rude description from a fellow member, and the obvious dislike of others, I thought the special was pretty amazing. To see all these young singers announce that they were affected by Stevie Wonder's music made me very happy. To see Tony Bennett and Andrea Bocelli and The Band Perry sing his music differently than we usually hear it just showed how universal his messages are. I didn't find a bad performance in the entire program and enjoyed every bit of music - and seeing Ms. Mary Wilson. The fact that so many older artists were getting audience shots during the performance made me very happy as well. And Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Ed Clark, Jr. killed the opening, starting off the night in a way that said, we are going to tribute but not recreate. And I loved that.

It was well done. I just wish I could have seen more of Stevie's Motown contemporaries, but I understand that they need to draw ratings by having all these people I've never heard of perform. They were also fine. I've just never heard of them. But I've also not turned on a radio to a contemporary station since 1990something.
