I've been wanting to share this wealth of Motown memorabilia with the Motown Forum members for a while now. What you'll see in the links below are gold-metalized vinyl Motown record albums and their accompanying album covers, housed and double-matted under plexiglass in a 20" x 24" black wooden frame, including a small metal plate which says, "Presented To Commemorate Worldwide Success". They are absolutely gorgeous, and they come with a Certificate of Authenticity ensuring that the gold record enclosed is indeed the record shown on the record label -- not just any old record with a fake photocopied label pasted over it.

Over the past 4 years, I've purchased 6 Philles gold-record-album frames, and I'm happy to say that, as a collector, they're my pride and joy. I discovered only recently the wide array of gold Motown frames which are available. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to purchase any more, and, worse, I have nowhere to put them. [[As it is, my 6 Philles frames are standing up in the den, leaning against the grand piano.) Thus, I've had to apply the brakes for such purchases before I get thrown out on my ear! But they're a wonderful investment, and I sure am glad I got 'em.

For your convenience, from the approximately 1,500 titles available, I've taken the liberty of singling out the Motown titles and alphabetizing them by artist below. It took 3-4 hours, but it was a labor of love for Motown. When you see how beautiful they are, I'm sure you'll understand why. - Gary

When I posted this thread [[Part 1 & 2), I had hoped that the Motown fans would be as excited as I was to discover that something so cool as the Motown Gold-Record Frames are available for purchase, yet only one forum member replied, and that was to question the authenticity of the gold records enclosed. Then I wondered if people might think that I stand to gain financially in any way from the sale of these Frames. If that's the case, let me assure you that the answer is NO! I'm in no way involved in the sale nor the proceeds/profits of these in any way, shape, nor form. They're sold on eBay by Wally Wiggins under the business name of goldsrus. Wally is a hell of a nice guy who has, over the past 4 years, offered me a quantity discount whenever I purchased from him, and he doesn't even know that I posted these Motown Frames on the Motown Forum. My only intent here was to share the knowledge that these Motown Frames are available. I remember how thrilled I was when I discovered the Philles frames that were available, and I just wanted to provide the same thrill for all of you Motown collectors-- nothing more; nothing less. Just wanted to make that clear. - Gary

Gary, I think folks may be skeptical because these have no RIAA certification on the actual frames, which make them appear to be fakes. I'm not saying they are, but it is suspicious. For instance, the Motown Cafe made gold records, framed them, and put them around the cafe. Three hang in my office. However, while they're likely "real" plated records, they didn't come from the RIAA, which to many collectors makes a huge difference. The albums have white borders which I can't tell if it's matting or that a reissue copy was used. If that's the case, it's just really cool art. Lastly, they don't appear to be made out to anyone specific [[artist, writer, producer, label, etc.). You may want to go to the RIAA website to see how you can check to see if the ones you have are real or not. If they are, great, but if they aren't, this guy may be in for a hell of a lawsuit.

I didn't question the authenticity of the framed records. I just wondered if they used original 1960s Lps or the M5 re-issues. Both would be legitimate. I also left open the possibility that the white border was a matte, which you clarified it was. In future, if such questions are so sensitive, I'll refrain from posting anything at all. Apologies.

Motown Andy, as Wally states in the item description for each individual gold-record frame, these were NOT presented by the RIAA. They're just cool. And the record is what the label says it is. [[When I bought my first Philles Christmas album gold-record frame four years ago, Wally told me he scraped off the old gold and then played it on an old record player to test its authenticity, and it was, indeed, the real deal.) Also, the white around each album cover is white matting [[See Memorabilia Part 2 where I clarified that for thanxal.) So, all in all, these are just for fun. And they're really beautiful in person, too.

I didn't mind your asking me that, thanxal. It was a legitimate question which deserved an honest answer. I was just disappointed and concerned that no one responded favorably to what I, as a Motown collector, think is really cool memorabilia. That's all.
