Friday night Diana Ross performed at the King Center for the Performing Arts in
Melbourne, Florida. She still has it! She did about one hour and 20 minutes,
non-stop only making costume changes [[five!!) throughout her show.
She had nine musicians [[2 drummers, keyboardist, bass, guitar, and four brass
players) and two backup singers [[1 male, 1 female--and they sounded like a
full choir!).
She opened, as usual, with "I'm Coming Out" and went right into the Supremes
hits--My World Is Empty, Where Did Our Love Go, Baby Love, Stop in the Name,
You Can't Hurry Love--and these were the full numbers; not a medley.
I can't recall everything, but I'll try: Upside Down, Why Do Fools, It's My House,
The Boss, Do You Know? [[Mahogany), Touch Me In The Morning, Take Me Higher,
Look of Love, More Today Than Yesterday, Billie Holiday songs--Fine & Mellow,
Don't Explain, Ain't No Mountain High Enough, I Will Survive, Reach Out & Touch.

I am sure I am leaving out something, but her show was great. She also played
Naples, Clearwater, Sarasota, Hollywood, and I now hear she's coming back to
Florida in February to play a theatre in Jacksonville. If she does an Orlando
date I will definitely go.
She didn't have much to say to the audience, however. But she really did sing
and sadly, she's one of the last of a group of legendary performers who do
actually sing with real musicians playing behind them.
The theatre probably holds between 2500-3000 and the highest tickets were
$119 and the lowest were $49 [[back in the balcony section).
I do wonder just what she's making now. Those five gowns were gorgeous,
but must be expensive to maintain. I shudder to think of her cleaning bill.
Anyway, she fully showed the respect for her own hits and doesn't seemed
so concerned anymore with trying to get a new hit.
I didn't buy any of the souveniers, but there were T shirts at $20 and $30,
a key chain for $5, and a photo booklet for $20.
Also, the audience she drew were the 40+ age group, which, of course,
makes sense.
Great show!!!

OK, just recall she also did Ease On Down The Road. I was reading a review of
her Clearwater show on Sat. [[ll/20) and it was mentioned.
Anyway, the Jax show will be Fri., March 4th. Her next date is in North Carolina
on the 11th so I am hopeful an Orlando date will pop up very soon.

Only an hour and 20 minutes? :[[

The show I saw was about an hour and a half; little chatting.

The tour book is really just a picture book and its pretty expensive ~ $25 I think. You'd only get it if you were a collector or something. But her son, Ross, took several of the pictures in the book, although as I recall, they were mostly ones that were not of Diana. And most of the pictures, we had seen before.

Good show; not necessary to buy tour book.

Yes, the tour book was a photo album and many of the photos of her I have previously seen. The book was $20 at
Friday's venue. Yes, an 80 minute show! Not bad when you consider her age and she sang the entire time.
Again, great show!

She remains one of the greatest.

Oops, here's another one--Love Hangover. And even with all the ones she did do, think of all the ones she could have,
but didn't. She has got such a great catalog of hits.

I believe some venues she has the big screen behind her showing various photos, but this was not at the Melbourne date.
However, the big stand with staircase for the band and backup singers she did have.

There is nothing like Diana, live in concert, making THE entrance and secondly, morphing from Do You Know Where You Are Going To to Ain't No Mountain High Enough; the audience will erupt with applause and an ovation for the entrance and some of the Supremes hits, but the morph from Going to Mountain really does it. I love the YouTube videos where you can see this happen. Ashford and Simpson do have to be acknowledge for what they did with that song.

I just read that the venue in Melbourne seats 2,016. She has received great reviews at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in
Clearwater [[Sat. night) and Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL [[Sun. night). RE Hall seats 2,081 and Hard Rock
seats 5,000-plus. Those reviews can be found under www.dianaross.com.

Wow! I am amazed by all of the touring Diana is doing especially after she has repeatedly said how much she does not like to tour. I guess Bernie must of have "reached out and touched" her more than anyone realized..........!@

The tour seems to go on and on; I've heard it's going overseas too; I hope it comes to Vancouver this year.

Who's Bernie?

I believe Marv2 is alluding to Bernie Madoff and inferring that Miss Ross is working so much because she needs the money.

She tours because live shows are in her blood..her DNA..its always been at the centre of her life..with the kids growing up and no partner in her life her greatest love affair has always been with her audience...
