Those 2 tracks It's So Exciting and Baby, Let's Smooth It Over don't sound very Supremes-y to me.

I tried to listen to some previews but it didn't work for me. Do I have to open Itunes to play them

This is for dummies like me....

You have to open itunes and click on the above link and click on a title. Then it wants you to launch an application. So I said yes and it worked!

If anyone is interested, the 101 Strings' album Hits Made Famous by the Supremes was released on Oct. 28th for download on iTunes.I practiced self-flagellation for years because the album wasn't purchased when I had the opportunity in 1966 [[thought it was 1965). Maybe the wounds will get a chance to heal. I don't remember any of the tunes being standouts, but to a 14 year old, this was a validation of mass acceptance of his favorite group.

Oh, yuck, gawd-awful. It sounded like my local elevator mated with Holland Dozier Holland and this was their demon child. Bleckkkkk!

I too hunted & searched for this album for years. I have it. I played it and yes, it is "elevator music" Never played I again, never bothered to convert to ITunes.

As nabob well stated " this was a validation of mass acceptance of his favorite group. "

In the 60's all adults seemed to have these "101 Strings do..." albums they were everywhere

I guess there was another orchestral album of the Supremes hits by the Fantabulous Strings and it even included album tracks like "Whisper You Love Me Boy."

Well, I bought this album, as pictured, when I saw it - I guess it was 1965 or 66.

The back cover showed several available albums in the series. However, The Supremes album had a different cover using the Eula Lincoln Center artwork. So for years I was always looking for what I assumed was the "original" cover, although it may have been just a proposed cover.

Oh, bradsupremes, that's the album with the two covers. I had that one too. That's the one I was desperately trying to find with the Eula cover. I see it is pictured in the youtube video you posted.

"Those Fantabulous Strings Play the Supremes Hits" Metro Records MS-554. And it also has "Standing at the Crossroads of Love". Much less gag-inducing than 101 Strings. 8643

Does anyone have the tracks for this album? Someone uploaded "Whisper You Love Me Boy" and "Come See About Me" on youtube. Would love to hear the arrangements for the other tracks.

On every "101 Strings Play Hits Of..." albums, there's 2 or 3 originals thrown in, likely just to cash in on the royalties they'll get from people buying the album and not having to pay all the royalties to Jobete [[or whoever). Even on the "101 Strings Play the Beatles" albums, there's some really funny titles which reflect the time the album came out and what the Beatles were into at the time. One title as I recall was something like "Lunch With the Guru" or some such rot!

I actually own the "Fantabulous…" vinyl album. I bought it back in the 60s. In retrospect, I am amazed that they were able to have permission to use the EULA caricature. That caricature has never appear on any actual Motown release. Interesting!

I wonder if that's why there are two covers? Was the Eula one removed from circulation due to licensing concerns?

Interesting per my comment above. Hiw can we [[compulsive fans LOL) find out which was first?

C'mon, you Motown historians! :-)

Thanks for posting that unique photo of the "Fantabulous..." cover featuring the Eula illustration. I have never seen or heard of that alternative album cover before. I have a very large collection of "Motown Cover" albums and will post some pictures of a very hard to find Canadian covers tribute to The Supremes and another oddity, "Tribute To the Sound of Detroit," which was part of a series, when I dig them out.

And that Eula drawing is different that the one I'm most familiar with - in fact, I've never seen that variation before myself. Here's the one I think we all know best:

I imagine the one on the "Fantabulous..." cover is a knock-off of this and not the real deal...

I can imagine Joe Eula did more than one illustration at the time and Lincoln Center chose the one they wanted to use.

Here is a third illustration:

I think the "Eula cover" was the original cover and the "strings cover" the second cover. I was aware that there was a "Eula cover" when I bought the "strings cover" because the Eula cover was pictured on the back cover of the album I had. I was never able to find the Eula cover and thought maybe it was just a proposed cover and never released.

Back in 1971, the compilers of the British album charts amended their rules and there was a sudden influx of soundalike cover versions, most notably the Top of the Pops and Hot Hits packages.

Among them was this album on the Music For Pleasure label:

I hope this comes out - the album above was also released in Sweden - check the spelling of Supremes!

The MFP album was reissued in 1974, this time on the Contour label [[part of RCA):

I just checked and it's on the back of my "strings cover, too" - I never noticed that before! Thanks for the link to the other Eula drawing - I never realized there was more than one out there from that same time period...but I did know about the Eula [[at least I believe it's Eula) of Mary:
