This is very sad. 'White Jack' Brokensha shared the percussion duties on hundreds of Motown records with 'Black Jack' Ashford and Eddie 'Bongo' Brown. He also worked with Joe Messina in Soupy Sales TV band - backing the likes of Coltrane and Bird - and he and Joe set up an operation to provide jingles for Detroit radio ads. He was a regular at the Detroit Jazz Festival and highly respected as a creative jazzer, although he was known for his self deprecation and sense of humour. Very much a key member of the snakepit alumni, his loss must affect every true Motown fan.

RIP Jack Brokensha

I spoke to Jack after finding his name in the Detroit phonebook.......He was friendly and was glad to talk about Motown.....he even invited us to a club he was playing at in the Detroit suburbs, but we couldn't make it.
He seemed keen to tell me that he played on most of Diana Ross records yet never met her in the flesh.

Ah, the vagaries of recording, Snake. I wish I had had the privilege of meeting him.
