Any thoughts as to why there has never been a Motown / Universal / HipO /Spectrum / whomever multi-CD set of Thelma's work at Motown? I know that there have been a couple of Greatest Hits CD. However, Thelma is a well known, still active performer whom I feel could surely sell more than some other artists I have seen receive releases [[with no disrespect to them).

Thelma has had a couple of rereleases from other labels licensed by Motown. Once upon a time -- when we still had HipO -- a comprehensive anthology similar to The Marvelettes multi-disc sets with full albums and unreleased tracks would have been appropriate and appreciated by fans and others!

As a Thelma Houston fan I would have to agree with that although the truth is that most of Thelma's album output has already seen release on CD - exceptions being "Ready To Roll" and "Reachin' All Around". Some of the non-LP recordings have been seen on the compilation CDs but I'm not sure whether "one Out of Every Six" is on CD. I suspect there is much unreleased material which would be great to put on the type of set you mention though some could get issued on expanded versions of the two albums yet to have CD output - I would think that the most likely scenario now [[BBR?).

Conversely, I wasn't crazy about "Don't Leave Me This Way" and imho I think Thelma's peak was "Sunshower" though I did love her Mowest album [[UK) and many selected tracks since [[of course there will be a lot of folks who disagree with this view). Love "You've Been Doing Wrong For So Long".

You have made my point, mystery singer. Thelma's output was so large and issued so intermittently on CD that some remixed anthology is really needed! Whether some of her albums have been issued individually here and there is a sidebar. Thanks!

Most of Thelma Houston's Motown albums have been reissued on CD this past year, including "Sunshower" with bonus tracks:

Ah, yes, "One out of Every Six"! As painfully embarrassing as the stereotypes are today, I still get a huge kick out of Norman, Is That You?. Speaking of which, was there ever a The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings soundtrack? It would be awfully nice to have at least mp3s of "Steal on Home" and "Razzle Dazzle".

sansradio - Talk about perfect timing! Look what I just found on Amazon! It's a Motown download by William Goldstein [[some of the tracks are instrumental disco tracks by William Goldstein & The Magic Disco Machine. Apparently, Motown hired William Goldstein to do some movie soundtrack tunes because this Motown collection contains Thelma Houston's "One Out Of Every Six", which you were JUST commenting on in this thread! Enjoy! - Gary

mysterysinger, thanks to the album/CD covers that you have posted on your Soulful Detroit Forum personal-info. page, I spotted Severin Browne's self-titled Motown CD which I never even knew existed. I immediately ordered it from Amazon and it arrived just a few days later. And, not only that, thanks to the CD titles advertised on the Japanese OBI strip, I learned that his follow-up Motown album, "New & Improved", is also available on CD. My copy is on its way! Just wanted to say thank you very much for educating me about that. - Gary

Razzle Dazzle can be found on the CD Motown Fame & Beyond A Retrospective of Songs by William Goldstein.

Thanks, brother_love! I posted right beneath my original that the actual soundtrack is available on Amazon, but always good to know about alternate sources, too.
