Spotlight on the lead singers

Don't know if this has been covered before. When Motown added the lead singers' names in front of the groups names, was it ever discussed to do so with the Four Tops? From what I've read, I don't think that Levi Stubb would have gone for it. Also they might have had to drop the "Four" and make it "Levi Stubbs & The Tops." Just curious.

I think that with groups such as-the four tops-the temptations the dynamic was about the group and not a lead singer and backups.
