I know a small part of this performance has been posted and discussed before, but this is the first time I've ever seen the ENTIRE segment where they perform The Happening, do a sit down interview and then perform the Lady is a Tramp. They were currently promoting their album Sings Rogers and Hart. I must warn you the clip is in bad shape and goes in and out quite a bit, but I thought it was worth posting. Only positive replies need to be made, anything negative should not be posted here. Thanks.

I wonder how positive Mary and Flo felt after Diana started talking about understudies?

I wonder who Mary's "understudy" was? Was it one of the Andante's? And was she ever used?

Thanks Methuselah2 for the clip, but again, this is off topic...

Shantel Baker was Mary's understudy until she replaced Freda in the group.

I've removed it, Ross. Sorry for the problem. I'll re-add it as a separate thread.

In all seriousness I believe the "understudies" were Cindy Birdsong and Marlene Barrow.

Methuselah2 was kind and respectful enough to remove his clip, now would you also be as kind? Thanks.

Except for the original video, I think all others should be removed. They have nothing to do with the original topic.

No I won't. Your prissy, uptight demand that everyone post only "positive" replies was obnoxious and a pretty much an open invitation for people to shit on your thread or be contrarian, to use a more polite term.

I think Shantel would have done a pretty ok job, but was she old enough to be an understudy way back in 1967? You go Shantel! LOL!!!!

Whatever the case may have been, Shantel being the headstrong woman she is, went on to get her own group of Supremes............ At 2:24 they do my favorite... "You Just Have to Wait"

I love this clip....uh meaning the Tonight Show clip lol. The girls were at the top of their game and were at their peak, but like all things that reach a peak it ended but all too soon if you ask me, a month and half later to be exact. So funny to see them denying that their breaking up which reminds me of a news article I read from June '67 where Florence denied she was leaving the Supremes and she had personal difficulties that she had worked out and plans on continuing with the group, a month later she was gone.
