You can't mistake Ivy Jo's work. Martha's "Heartless" is a brilliant track.

I do like "In Bed" - it's a strong song- but Rare Earth's version is stronger than Wes Henderson's. "Reality" is much too heavy for me.

I'll have to listen to Rare Earth's since you recommend it, Martin....thanks!

The Weight was the first Motown 45 commercially released in Stereo

always was a head scratching choice as a single since it had just been a hit for Aretha though.....

So did Diana Ross in "Reflections".:)

Thankfully quality control caught her distorted reality in time before the art department put out that Reflections album cover with 4 Supremes on it! Fans would be catfighting about it till this day......

I LOVE The Weight and For Better Or Worse, however, I think THE single on that album is Why Must We Fall In Love. LOVE this show, toooooo!

I love the Marvelettes version of "That's How Hearaches Are Made". It rivals the Baby Washington original version, which I love too.

I agree, Joesph! I like both sides of this 45. It's Raining sounds SOOOOOO 60's - unusual key chord progression for Motown.

I'm the only person who loves The Weight. I seriously LOVE it - the vocals are killer [[the 45 mix only.) It's lonely here.......

"Home On the Range" was put out in edited form in September 1969 with "It's A Family Thang " on the B-side. The unedited version was issued the following month coupled with "Mend This Generation".

Dusty Springfield does a very good version of "That's How" as well. I also like Loleatta Holloway's take on the song. Baby Washington's original version has a more organic soul quality, where the Marvelettes version has a more sophisticated soul sound. And I do love me some sophisticated soul:rolleyes:

This song marks the beginning of a most prolific 2 weeks in Motown history: 5 huge records in that short time span: Yesterme, I Want You Bavk, Friendship Train, These Eyes & Someday...... not bad except I was going broke.

I'm glad I [[g)listened to the show. Is it too early to suggest Gladys Knight & the Pips' "Giving Up" and Barbara Lewis's "Baby I'm Yours" for next week?

Martin.....hope it cooled off for you finally, and it's always a pleasure to have you listen. No...not too early to suggest those gems written by the genius Van!!!
