Howdy, Nightfliers! Hope you are enjoying this beautiful, but oddly cool, Spring. Tonight, as a change of pace and a bit of a cleanse of the palate, the theme for tonight's show is "all over the map". I'll be playing all sorts of genre...Motown, R&B, Pop, Rock, Broadway and maybe one of a few of my new extended versions....and more. Oh...yes...and a couple special Tom Moulton mixes not aired before, that he was kind enough to send to me knowing you'd all get a chance to hear them. So do join me for tonight's music that is rare to radio! All that and more...on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM in Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org) Thanks so much! See ya on the radio! John

This alternate version of Touch Me In The Morning really blows the often put forth tale out of the water that this song had to be pieced together from multiple takes due to poor voice. Just beautiful work even if Miss Ross really was upset over losing the Oscar.....

Jack Lemmon and Catherine Deneuve...who ever dreamed up that pairing???

If you go here and read the synopsis, you might see why Catherine Deneuve was in the film:
http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/67548/The-April-Fools/

In an interview with Larry King in 2000, Catherine reveals a good part of the reason for the pairing:

KING: Now concerning American actors, you have worked with Jack
Lemmon. He was on this show last week. What was that like? in "April Fools."
DENEUVE: Wonderful, wonderful, it is wonderful. It is a great -- he was a -- he is a great, you know, really a great actor, and it was wonderful thing. It was very nice on my experience, you know, such -- I didn't have much experience, you know, then, and especially not American films -- to be in a production that -- the film was co- produced by him, so it was very different atmosphere, you know, of shooting, and filming on the set. It was very nice, very nice shooting

I love Lemmon [[most of the time - sometimes he overacts or uses too many grimaces and weird techniques in his acting), and of course I love Deneuve. I just can't imagine them together. I've not seen the film, but I wonder if they had any chemistry...it's hard to imagine.

I think she's a little modest in that brief quote. She'd already made several classics before that, like "Umbrellas of Cherbourg," "Belle de Jour," and "Repulsion." She's still acting and still beautiful!

I always thought "I Can Never Go Home Anymore" was kind of the precursor to "I'm Livin' in Shame."

I notice you can hardly hear the "Mama!" shout in the background on this mix. I also don't recall ever hearing the "I'm not finished..." before the last verse. Was it newly mixed in?

Well...I love the movie...but so much is odd. Jack is quite silly and Catherine is QUITE cool and aloof. But see it...lots of great moments. Sally Kellerman and Jack Weston and Harvey Korman are in it too.

[QUOTE=kenneth;233529 I just can't imagine them together. I've not seen the film, but I wonder if they had any chemistry...it's hard to imagine.

There really wasn't much. The audience also ended up being fooled; the real link between the two principals was their desire to escape loveless marriages, which in the end they did, fleeing to Paris. [[Shortly thereafter, Jack & Catherine probably went their separate ways. realizing that the link between them wasn't anything that could sustain a healthy relationship)

Also remember this is Catherine's first American film.

Good one...but I think THIS one tops that...."Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed?"! Bacharach and David wrote it.

She does sound a lot like Marilyn McCoo especially on the high parts...I honestly never knew Florence ever sang leads, probably assuming it was always Marilyn. Great song!

The Fifth Dimension recall that when they completed the tune at the White House, it was received by stunned silence from the audience. Many in attendance knew that the song had been banned by the Armed Services. Nixon's ovation broke the ice.
