Destination Anywhere by the Marvelettes is being used for the new TV ad for budget airline Ryanair. The song's not generally one that gets played on the radio over here in the UK, so it's an interesting choice. And, of course, it always sounds great. However, having said that, it's featured in the film The Commitments.

Wow! Great to hear Wanda's voice in this ad! What a great pick for the airline.

It would be great if Wanda see this commercial!

It would be even greater if they paid her and the other Marvelettes.

In the Netherlands an insurance comparison site is using "Upside Down", featuring a sloth, since a week.

In the Brenda Holloway "Suddenly" threat it's written that "Suddenly" featured in an ad as well. Which ad?

Amazing. I wonder who would have even known "Destination Anywhere" existed, let alone that it was appropriate to use.

144Man .. the song was featured in the "Commitments" movie, produced in 1991 .. which was a huge hit in Ireland ..

This is the version used in the movie, sung by Niamh Kavanagh ....

Thanks, Roger. I completely forgot about that and missed Soulwally's reference to it above as well.

I wonder if the artist gets anything at all from this beyond satisfaction and a good feeling?

They should be but...........I think the Company/Corporation owns the record and they can do with it what they want. Which sucks.

Only when you "made it", did you get those clauses in saying the could not use it for advertising etc.

So I bet Universal is getting something............and that might be it.

I think as performers on the original recording, the singers would still get royalties for the use of the song in a commercial. It can't rise to the level of a "hit record," but unless they traded away their rights to royalties, Wanda, Katherine and [[Ann? or Gladys' estate?) would still derive something from the use of the song.
