On this day in music history, we celebrate the birthday of Billie Holiday [[Eleanora Fagan), who was born on April 7th 1915 in Philadelphia, PA.

She is considered the greatest female jazz singer of all time. Throughout her career, she made over a hundred records and worked with many famous musicians at the time including Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne and numerous others.

Holiday died on 17th July 1959 from liver failure at the aged of 44.

Also, on this date in 1973, Diana Ross started a two week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 200 album charts with the movie soundtrack to “Lady Sings the Blues” which is a biopic of Billie Holiday.

The soundtrack was successful as Ross was critically acclaimed for her emulation of Holiday’s voice.

Quick spell-check on the thread: It's "Holiday" with one "l", not "Holliday" like Jennifer spells her name. I just left another board where a commenter wasn't distinguishing "George Reeves" from "Christopher Reeve" - two big heroes of mine as is the character they portrayed. Sorry to be nitpicky!
