These look to be THE COOPERETTES who did "Shing-A-Ling" on Brunswick.

The tune was one of those Harthon productions from 1966[[ish), so they were most likely from Philadelphia. It is a pity that WELDON McDOUGAL is no longer around as I'm sure he would have known something about them ..

The Cooperettes were definitely from Philadelphia, and their Brunswick releases were all produced there. I never heard of "The Love Joys". But, "Leola and The Lovejoys" worked out of New York, with Leiber and Stoller, and must have been from The New York/Northern New Jersey Metro Area.

Hi...This is what I have from a booklet that came with a cd about The cooperettes:
THE COOPERETTES ARE 4 SISTERS: JANETTE, DEBBIE, TINA AND ANGIE, THAT WERE MANAGED BY THEIR MOTHER ETHYL WHO ARRANGED A RECORDING CONTRACT WITH A MAJOR LABEL BRUNSWICK RECORDS. THEY STARTED OUT AS A GOSPEL GROUP, THE LITTLE COOPERETTES BUT SHORTENED THEIR NAME TO THE COOPERETTES, SINGING RHYTHM AND BLUES. THEIR FIRST SINGLE, 'GOODBYE SCHOOL' WAS A BIG SELLER IN PHILLY. THE GROUP WENT ON TO DO SHOWS AT SID BOOKER'S HIGH LINE, WONDERGARDEN IN ATLANTIC CITY, TOWN HALL ON BROAD AND RACE AND THE UPTOWN THEATRE WITH THE TEMPTATIONS. ONE OF THEIR RECORDS WAS RELEASED IN ENGLAND 'SHING-A-LING' AND BECAME A HIT SO THE GROUP CAME OVER TO PERFORM. IN THE LATE 60'S A DJ [[SONNY HOPSON) GOT THE GROUP A DEAL WITH ABC WITH THE MORRIS BAILEY SONG 'TROUBLE', WHILE PERFORMING AT A CLUB IN CHESTER, THE GROUP MET PRODUCER DANNY ODUM WHO RELEASED A 45 ON HIS IDB LABEL IN THE EARLY 70'S: 'WIN ALL YOUR LOVE', WRITTEN BY TED MILLS OF THE TOPPIKS/ BLUE MAGIC AND SAM REED, BANDLEADER OF THE UPTOWN THEATRE, THE COOPERETTES LEAD SINGER TINA ENDED UP MARRYING DANNY ODUM AND TODAY ARE BOTH ORDAINED MINISTERS. THE COOPERETTES HAVE PROVIDED BACKGROUND VOCALS TO MANY RECORDS SUCH AS BENNY SIGLER, TIMMY CARR AND HAVE SANG WITH THE LIKES OF DAVID RUFFIN, THE MAD LADS, THE ARTISTICS, THE STAPLE SINGERS, JAMES BROWN AND OTHERS. DEBBIE PAST AWAY IN 1989 OF CANCER AND THEIR MOTHER ETHYL COOPER DIED IN 1998.
CREDIT INFO: BOOKLET THAT ACCOMPANIED THE CD.

They were first known as the Lovejoys and then Leola & The Love Joys before becoming the Apollas. They also recorded two singles as Love Salvation for Bell Records. Leola Jiles had solo singles on both A&M and WB Records. The ladies are west coast girls where they still reside to this day.

Members:
Ella Jamerson, Augustine Jackson [[1961-63), Gloria Beverley [[1961-63), Shirley Brown [[1961-63), Leola Jiles [[1963-68), Billie Barnum [[1965-68)
