I LOLd at "The legend remains that Mary Berry was the more distinctive and accomplished singer."

As Cher would say, "Whoooooooooo?"

I wonder if the Brit reporter was thinking of Mary Wells?

No, Mary Berry is an English food writer and television presenter, and very popular at the present time as a judge on BBC The Great British Bake Off, and also her own series. She's 79.....

I think the reporter was writing to a deadline, was subconciously influenced by the names 'Berry' and 'Mary' and simply not sufficiently focused on the subject in hand - and, of course, is decades younger than Diana Ross, Berry Gordy and Mary Wilson, let alone Mary Berry....

These poor buggers these days; they write any old crap just to get it out and then find out that what they've written is all wrong.

There a lot of tributes out there in the Media for Diana's 70th. I'm surprised at the number.

That's because she's a living legend and she truly deserves it after more than 5 decades in showbusiness.

This is being reported outside the English-speaking world as well. I keep up with the news in Germany [[I lived there many years) and I came across this article this morning, on the home page of this news website:

http://www.welt.de/kultur/pop/article126188108/Selbst-nackt-eine-distanzierte-Ikone.html

Here it is from Google translate for those of you who don't read German - the translation is poor and at times funny!

Seems like the Huffington Post are fans. They have a feature on the UK version of the site, and on the US Huffington Post they have two articles today on the site. One in Celebrity and one in Style.

In honour of Diana Ross, can we reclaim the word "diva"?

On the singing legend's 70th birthday, Cheri Percy argues that we need to reclaim "diva" and banish its negative connotations for women.

I wonder if the Brit reporter was thinking of Mary Wells?

Then he must have corrected himself because this is how the article reads now.....

"And yet, there were mutterings in the ranks back when Motown boss Berry Gordy selected her as a teenager to lead the Supremes. The legend remains that Mary Wilson was the more distinctive and accomplished singer. But Ross had something more: presence, desire, sex appeal, she was someone you could not take your eyes off. And once she grabbed our attention with those fantastic Motown hits, she held it, for decade after decade, shining like someone who truly believed the spotlight belonged to her. "

Not to burst your bubble, marv but I'm sure he meant Florence Ballard all along.

Can you please keep out of these birthday threads? Let the fans enjoy the day without your snark.

Not that you have to kiss my ......., but I think he wrote in his correction what he meant! Can you please go to hell and not tell me where I am and am not allowed on this forum? Thank you.

I agree with him - like Ichabod Crane, Sleepy Hollow, The Headless Horseman and The Easter Bunny, it's a legend. However, certainly a case can be made for Mary's voice to be considered distinctive, and, if you tried Marv, I'm sure you could say it is more accomplished.

This is kind of [[another)one of those moments where you are doing what you say you don't like. You are on a Diana Ross thread after proclaiming that you do not like her - yet, you complain bitterly about Mary's non-fans posting on Mary threads.
Just sayin..........

Happy Miss Ross' Birthday!

PS If you don't have your ticket yet for Mary - there are good seats still available for both shows.
And, should you choose to, there are still good seats for Miss Ross in Albany & Kansas City!

Then he must have corrected himself because this is how the article reads now.....

"And yet, there were mutterings in the ranks back when Motown boss Berry Gordy selected her as a teenager to lead the Supremes.
