Ive seen Donnie and Marie Osmond at the Flamingo and they put on a real great show. Its a real nice and intimate thaeter and theres not a bad seat in the house. Donnie is still very handsome and his voice is real strong and so is Maries. Id love to see the First Lady of Motown Records Sr Martha Reeves get a long term Vegas gig. Id drive up every other month to see Miss Martha.

There is a picture on Facebook, on Rhonda Ross's page, of the FLOS at Rhonda's recent concert.

I would post it but I believe that feature has been disabled over the posting of copyrighted, private photos.

I honestly believe [[sorry, for this) ~ but even in the smaller theaters, I'm not sure any of the FLOS, Mary Wilson, or Martha Reeves could continually draw enough of a crowd in to warrant a continuing engagement.

Sorry, I know I'll get some mushy tomatoes for that.

If the first Lady of Motown Dr martha Reeves can sell out BB King in New york she can sure sell out a thater like the Donny and marie theater at thev Flamingo in Vegas. it only hold 700 folks so I know good and well that tourists would line up night after night and night after night and night after night and night after night and week after week and week after week for Miss Martha.

Martha is a truly lucky woman to have a fan such as you.

Yes, I knew one of my tomatoes would be coming from Ms. Roberta!

Thanks to Grease being shown nearly non stop on cable for 30 years plus, Olivia Newton John has a much larger fan base and name recognitin than Mary or the FLOS so no surprise she would be asked to do a residency in Vegas. Perhaps Mary or the FLOS could get a residency gig at one of the local Vegas casinos far from the strip.

Our girls simply don't have that line of recognizable hit records that Olivia does.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Jobeterob. As much as I adore Martha and Mary, OI don't know that their name can draw the same crowds. Vegas audiences seem to be more attracted to bigger, flashier shows of artists such as Celine Dion, Cirque de Soleil, Diana Ross, etc. I think if a younger generation were given the choice of the wildly popular Cirque de Soleil, or Martha Reeves - let's call a Spade a Spade, her name is not recognizable to many younger audiences without "and the Vandellas" or her hit songs preceeding it - acts like Celine and Cirque are more likely to find favor over the perceived "oldie" acts. While Martha and Mary certainly draw their fair share of audiences all over [[usually older audiences, for the most part), Vegas crowds might be looking for something different.

Of course, I could be totally wrong and they could be big successes with the right promotion, but that's just my opinion. :)

They do have their own line of hits, and a lot of young people can recognize them today, but they can't put a name or a face to those songs! I meet people today who think "Dancing In the Street" was by Diana Ross and the Supremes, or that "Rescue Me" was by Aretha Franklin - or that "Respect" was by Diana Ross! Sad!

I saw Miss Ross obliterate Caesars Palace 2 years ago -[[ the best show since Orlando '07) The Flamingo Showroom is a great, intimate room that Mary could work as could The Flos. Either act could be promoted to us old geezers. It's onlt=y to fill in when Donnie & Marie are off - I think it's a natural. Really, I wish Miss Ross would do it. It's too small, but I can dream, can't I? I'd move to Vegas and go every night. You think I'm kidding? I LOVE that room - DMC played it and I swear [[you know I'm not prone to exxxxagggggeration) you can still feel it!

I think that Mary or the FLOs could successfully do a show at the Flamingo, as a one-time or short gig. I don't know that either would be able to fill the seats night after night, week after week. Mary has played Vegas many times with success; I don't know that the FLOs get many North American gigs?

I think Mary was a smart cookie to team up with Duke and his Three Tops on her most recent Chicago performances. I don't know that the shows were sell-outs, but I know they finished the run. I think if anything, Mary would benefit with more "package" tours, perhaps partnering with the Temptations or DrFirstLadyofMotownMiss Martha Reeves. The FLOs could equally team up with Dennis' Tempts group, or perhaps the Original Vandellas.

Mary has been doing "package" tours. I saw her last year in an oldies show where she opened for Herman's Hermits. Also on the bill were Jay And The Americans and The Happenings . I like Mary, but I didn't like her performance at this show. I think she was trying too hard to win over her audience. And since all she sang was Supremes songs, I don't think she won them over. She is much better in a small cabarat type show. I think she is currently on a cruise ship performing with some other oldies acts. I'm usually disapointed when I go to some of these oldies shows. Two that I liked were Stylistics Russel Thompkins and Tempts with Dennis Edwards

These days Celine Dion is an oldies act...she hasn't had a hit since 2000...her core audience are middle aged people who loved her adult contemporary hits from the 90s.

For a "continuing engagement show," perhaps a version of "The Motortown Review" with three or four of these acts would do well at the Flamingo. Mary and the Four Tops show could add one or two more performers.

Good ideas from Longtimefan and Mary Brewster; these could work.

Even the few acts that could fill the rooms for a lengthy time could bring voice trouble on from an endless run at age 70.

On this, I totally agree. For God's sake, Olivia has FOUR Grammys and has sold 100 million records. Her solo career outshines Diana's to be sure. I'm happy and proud of her for getting this gig, she deserves it! And it's nice to see someone NICE finish first.

I do love Olivia. She was huge in the 70s and 80s. However I don't know if she outshined Diana!!

Diana outshines Olivia. She sold her own 100 Million Records. But it's all opinion.

Diana was huge in the 60 70s 80 and in some parts of the world in the 90s. Didn't Diana do more movies, move TV, more Tonys, more Kennedy Centre Honors, more AMA's, more Emmy/Grammy nominations, Central Park, an Academy Award Nomination.

Olivia was great too.

I agree 100 % .... Diana did do a lot more than Olivia. No female artist was bigger than Diana.

Uh.. nope. Olivia has 4 Grammys, Diana had none until they decided to give her a consolation prize on the night of Whitney's death. And Olivia starred in one of the top 3 grossing movies of the 70's. Even Xanadu grossed more than Mahogany. And well,.... people like her. They do come in about equal to each other when it comes to record sales.... but considering that Olivia has won more awards, and if you compare the box office of their biggest movies, there's no comparison. Lady sings the Blues grossed 19 million, while Grease grossed 395 million. If you think 19 million outshines 395 million, then I suppose you can... but I suggest you go back to school for some basic math skills.

Jill I agree Grease grossed way more than Lady Sings the Blues. However Olivia did have the the number 1 male star at the time in John Travolta. Diana Ross sold her box office tickets with her name alone. Diana got a lot more critical acclaim for Lady than Olivia got for Grease. Being nominated for an Academy Award for best actress is huge. And I do love Olivia too!

I can't believe you all are fighting about who was the bigger star. Let's split the difference. Diana Ross' hey day lasted longer, but Grease was [[and to a certain extent still is) a very popular movie enjoyed by generations.

Smark: They/we are not fighting at all. It's just a discussion. And, um, Marv's not here.

Grease was one of the biggest movies of all time, just like Endless Love was one the biggest movie themes of all time!
