Not sure if this has been covered here before but...

At the time of original issue, the song "Mashed Potato Time" was credited to writers Mann-Lowe. Nowadays, you see it as credited to Kalman Cohen, Freddie Gorman, William Garrett, Georgina Dobbins, Robert Bateman and Brian Holland. Was this another case where Motown sued and then got writers credits - a la Len Barry's "1-2-3"?.

MASHED POTATO TIME was found to be similar to PLEASE MR. POSTMAN, hence the revised writing credits.

Yes, and that happened by the time it was becoming a hit. On her lp, the writers credits and publishers had been changed, which included Jobete.
