Howdy, and Happy Holiday Season to all, Nightflight Listeners! [[And no...I have no war on Christmas as those fools on Fox would have you believe by my not saying "Merry Christmas"...it's a little too early for Christmas, anyway...I'll start that next week!)[[...wow...that Fox rant woke me right UP!)

Tonight...on Nightflight...we continue with The Complete Motown Singles collection and with a little sadness we say goodbye to the amazing year 1965...and we bump up against the magnificent Motown year 1966. And as we say goodbye to Motown 1965, we finish with TCMS for the year 2013. The reason is next week and the week after, Dec 17th and Dec 24th [[Christmas Eve), I am presenting the Nightflight Christmas shows...yes...TWO of them. This will allow me to air a show devoted to
Motown, Soul and R&B holiday music on Dec 17th, and more traditional fare on Christmas Eve. Please be reminded that I always search for the more interesting and rare tracks for you on these holiday shows!
Also...I will be with you on New Years Eve for a special show....then on Jan 7, 2014, we will continue with TCMS collection....1966, in the year of Our Motown!

So do join me for the festivities, tonight and every Tuesday night...
on Nightflight...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and streaming live worldwide at www.womr.org
Thanks so very much!

John, Some promos have Take My Hand as the B side but other promos and the commercial 45 have Something's Bothering You on the flip.....

If I remember rightly, there were space problems, and the rarer tracks were included at the expense of tracks that were readily available on his Greatest Motown Hits CD.

Out of all the mainstream artists that were signed to Motown, Barbara McNair was the only one who was at ease and could totally handle whatever material was thrown at her. Two magical sides here!

Did Ethel Merman coach Tony Martin on his vocal for Ask Any Man? He's certainly channelling her and Kate Smith on this track.....

I've been dreading this moment. "Ask Any Girl" is one of my favourite Supremes' records, and Tony Martin's voice sounds so wrong, wrong, WRONG on this. The second worst Motown record ever made.

I love Kate as well.... Her version of a Ballad Of The Green Berets is a Showstopper.... I also have her cookbook from the 40's which is a hoot to read and cook out of.... Her tips on pleasing your man after a long day at the office is essential reading.....

"Berry's Darlings" sounds like a 70's cop show. "Once upon a time, there were three little girls who went to the Motown Academy . . .";)
