Looks like an informative read.

Saw all the great Stax-Volt Artists 1965-1968 at various venues mostly theater revues. "Sam & Dave" really rocked the audiences back then. Of course, Otis, Pickett, The Bar-Kays, Madlads, and rest were all great.

This is good to know. I ordered the book from Amazon last week, and it is on its way.

How does it compare to Bowman's Soulsville USA?

Dave, I thought it was better, an easier read, and all about STAX.Everyone really had praise for Jim Stewart & Estelle Axton.

Really good book, but I have to admit, I liked Bowman's book better.

I'll read anything about Stax...doubt that this could top Bowman's book but I'm more than willing to seek out a copy.

Best,

Mark

I agree. I watched the doc on YouTube, and don't know what was in the blocked part, but it seems that a lot of things were glazed over during the latter part of the Atlantic-era. The Bowman book, on the other hand, glazed over a lot of the mid-70s things.

Thankfully NYPL has a few copies of this book. I just put a hold on it this morning and look forward to reading it soon. My budget's too tight for me to buy every book that comes out
these days. That's why I adore having access to my libraries. If it's that much of an "owner",
meaning I'll often be referencing it, I can buy it later, CHEAPER! LOL!!!...
