being as this is an h/d/h song and production, can someone tell me if the all stars are the band or the funk brothers [[or was there always overlap), like were some funk brothers also full time all stars.

also, knowing that h/d/h loved using lots of back up singers ... who sings backup here ... andantes? doesn't sound like them to me ...

I believe that the Funk Brothers are on most of the groups studio recordings.

Yes, that's very true, although occasionally, members of the All Stars would feature on some of the tracks [[as noted in some of the recent compilations).

I believe the drummer on 'How Sweet It Is' is the All Stars James Graves.

I believe that all the tracks on "Soul Session" and the 2 "Cleo`s ", "Tune Up" and "Ain`t That The Truth" from "Shotgun and "Money", Baby You Know You Ain`t Right" and "Twist Lackawanna" from "Road Runner" are the All Stars.

All Funks on this track. Pretty positive it's the Andantes too.

You're right Paul, here is a rare French LP back cover with details on the musicians :

These details were given to Kurt Mohr by Raynoma Gordy.

Thanks for posting those pictures Phil.

I had heard about these French LPs giving details of the musicians, but I think it's the first time I've seen one of them!

Confirms that the drummer on HSII was not one of the Funks, although I got it wrong in that was actually Billy 'Sticks' Nix.

I had read he joined the All Stars in 1966 replacing James Graves, but wasn't sure when exactly it was! [[I recall HSII was completed towards the end of May).

Does anyone know the details of why James Graves left the All Stars in '66?

Does anyone know the details of why James Graves left the All Stars in '66?

Not sure why he left, but according to the All Stars Wikipedia page [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junior_Walker) and the Discogs page on him [[http://www.discogs.com/artist/James+Graves), he was killed in a car accident in 1967.

I'll have to dig out 'Nothing But Soul', as I'm sure it's mentioned in the booklet.

Cheers
