CBC had a news report tonight saying that in order to post comments on You Tube, you now have to have a special account ~ either Google Plus or Google Cloud, or some name like that.

And they say it is rapidly cleaning up and ending the "filth, hate comments and other riff raff" on You Tube.

Anyone know what has happened?

I just tried to post a comment and it brought me to Google Plus first where it transferred my user name and then asked for more personal info and friends. I left everything blank and it said that I was going to be very lonely since I added no friends. For the past year, YouTube has been trying to get me to change my username to my real name. I kept my user name. But they forced me to sign in with an e-mail address instead of a user name.

YouTube is owned by Google and Google is trying to gather as much info on us as it can. It knows what we search, it knows where we go, it knows where we are.

YouTube could rapidly clean up the filth, hate comments and other riff raff without having us sign into Google, but it is just another way to keep an eye on us.

How are they going to determine what's considered hateful and what's not? There's too many videos to go through by hand and It's not like they can have an automated bot do the job. Will further comments have to pend approval by YouTube? I like the idea, but this just sounds too vague of an idea to be implemented successfully. But, hey, I'm no tech. expert.

Thanks for the article which I will read. From what I heard, you will be identifiable which will suddenly [[or perhaps has already) made many of the "brave" people who publish hatred and filth go quiet????

I really enjoy being able to find a lot of stuff on youtube, music, video, old films, plays,
even how-to info on youtube I'd otherwise not be able to access but I've never joined youtube or google as a registered user/member because I've never liked their privacy
policies and the way they share information with third parties. Of course this means I will
run into things I can't view but so be it. Sometimes I can find a backdoor but if not I just
skip it and not sweat it. Other times the same thing will be re-posted by a different
user or the same one wanting anyone to be able to open it, for instance, both the Temptations Heavenly and The Ohio Players Silly Billy were at times flagged over copywrite
infringement but later reposted.Of course I'm so crazy about both I bought them online,
tiring of youtube politics. Just about all of these sites try to pull some okey dokey with
private information, especially the "social media " ones. Seems every month I see a reminder why I'm glad I'm not on Spacebook or MyFace...

When I was looking for a video clip about the horrors of the holocaust a couple of weeks ago, I saw links to videos denying the holocaust so there’s still plenty of hate activity on youtube. As for the user name issue, you have had to have a google account for some time in order to comment on videos. But just recently youtube changed that your youtube user name had to have both a first name and a last name. I wasn’t going to give them that so I gave a variation of my online user name as my first name and my last name is just an initial and a period. There are ways of circumventing it. It won’t do anything to reduce hateful comments and flame wars on youtube. The only way that will stop is if youtube decides to just explicitly forbid user comments on all videos.

This explains a lot .. I registered with youtube some years back and posted a few comments on a few music videos [[no not nasty/hateful ones :)) but then forgot my username/password combination and couldn't be bothered to have them reset so I stopped commenting on youtube.

Just over a year ago I got a gmail account when I registered with blogger.com and a week or so back I saw something on youtube I felt I had to comment on and was expecting to have to re-register with you-tube but instead it asked for my gmail password and I was able to post.

For those who are interested this was the video I commented upon ..

I don't see what the big deal is. So you just create an alternate email address and a fake Google+ account. The trolls will continue to hide; YouTube just added a few more steps.

You want to make things difficult? Only allow one account per IP address. Limit the amount of comments per day. Limit the amount of replies per thread. No honey, I'm not talking about SDF, LOL.

Furthermore, and perhaps more importantly, in an effort to combat bigger demons, like child pornography and internet based human trafficking, make accounts verifiable through State Issued Identification or Social Security Number. All that information is readily available anyway.....

In the meantime, Sybils? Start your [[search) engines!

Its all about advertising. Google owns Youtube as has been mentioned here and they are trying to force you into Google + to compete with Facebook. Google is creepy in how much it stalks you and your content for information but no more or less than Facebook. They are all after you for advertising.

I wonder if they are just using the "cleanup" as an excuse and coverup for trying to attract advertisers and make us move to Google.

The radio interview on CBC seemed to think the cleanup was going to be pretty effective. I guess we'll see in the next few months.
