This evening, the Royal Albert Hall London was the venue for Mick Hucknall and Van Morrison and special guests performing their tribute to Bobby Blue Bland. Van Morrison did three excellent songs, followed by Paul Carrack, and then Hamish Stuart of Average White Band. Mick Hucknall then performed his entire album Tribute to Bobby Bland. Hamish stayed on stage playing guitar, and Ronnie Wood and Mick Taylor of The Rolling Stones came on to play guitar backup and solos.

All the artists were brilliant, and it is a mark of just how respected the late Bobby Bland is in the UK that the venue was sold out.

Mick Hucknall was absolutely outstanding throughout, there is in my mind no better soul singer from the UK performing today. I will post some video, but in the meantime, here is an old clip of Mick Hucknall performing "Angel", well known to us by Aretha Franklin and Walter Jackson. He has no advance warning that he is about to perform a song, and has only a cassette tape backing him on a boombox. I really like this as it gives some insight as to just how good a soul singer Mick Hucknall is - no faking.
