Soul icon SMOKEY ROBINSON and his Motown Records boss BERRY GORDY are set to be celebrated by officials at Los Angeles' Grammy Museum for their outstanding contributions to music.

The stars will be recognized with the inaugural Architects of Sound honors - the veteran singer will receive the Artist Award and Gordy will take home the Vision Award at a Grammy Museum benefit gala to be held at Club Nokia on 11 November [[13).

Bob Santelli, executive director of the museum, says, "We are honored to celebrate both Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson as the first-ever recipients of the Architects of Sound Awards. Their contributions to Motown have truly changed the landscape of American music.

"We are grateful to these extraordinary industry leaders, who will be helping us celebrate not only our first gala, but also our upcoming five-year anniversary of The Grammy Museum."

The Architects of Sound awards are bestowed upon those who are "catalysts in changing the musical legacy of America, and who helped shape the sound of a specific genre".

November is shaping up to be a great month for Gordy - the music mogul will also be saluted at Ebony magazine's annual Power 100 celebration in New York on 4 November [[13).
