Howdy, Nightflight Listeners!! Tonight we continue the [[seemingly) never ending story of Motown as we move deeper and deeper [[thanks, Freda!) into the pivotal year...1964.
More refinement of the Motown sound and engineering, new talent as well as some odd artists sign with the company, and old standbys start to leave...something that would continue throughout Motown's musical reign of terror.
But no bloodshed tonight...
just some great and interesting music from that amazing year for Motown....1964!
Join me for all that and more...tonight...on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and we are streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org
Thanks
John
PS....and thanks to Bobby Gardner...SDF's own Rossholloway for his MAJOR contribution to making the airing of The Complete Motown
Singles collection possible! Thanks, Bobby!!

John, "Motown's musical reign of terror"? I don't remember The Supremes wearing camoflage gowns? So "Shoot Your Shot" was a command not a title? I thought Berry was dicking around, not a dictator. The Temps, The Tops wearing epaulets? Carolyn Crawford a young recruit? Hmmm, I don't remember that. Well I am a child of the 60's and I don't remember a lot. I was 13 in 1964 and it was not a very good year for me - but the music was fabulous and wonderful. Music to live for! And I'm still standing! Looking forward to joining you and the gang tonight to revisit the magic of MoTown, 1964!

Why does that picture of Berry automatically make me think he's got a crowd in front of him and hes saying "See this album? See the girl at the bottom of the cover? she will be on top soon enough once we change the E to A in her name and I will only accept number one records being written for her.":D

Can You Do It- What a great song. Would loved to have seen their stage routine to this song.

On Page 68 of this collection, there is a great photo of Kim Weston singing on stage at the Twenty Grand and Jack Ashford is in the background playing the xylophone. Kim is singing into what looks like two microphones. Does anyone know if any unreleased live performances by Kim W. exist in the vaults?

My Lady Bug was written by HDH and R. Dean Taylor!

When Harry was asked about live material in the vaults, the impression I got was that there were lots of odds and ends...like Tammi's 13min live performance on the Tammi Collection....

The backing tracks on R. Dean Taylor and the Andantes are very similar to each other.

On My Guy the backing track was recorded on March 2, 1964, Mary's vocals were recorded March 3rd and the record was released 10 days later on March 13. That's one heck of a schedule.

Although I had started paying a bit of attention to music on the radio in the early 60s, I wasn't able to actually start buying 45s until around the time frame of this show...1964. I was 13 at the time. I recall mowing lawns and doing odd jobs for neighbors in order to get the bucks to buy the latest Motown tunes. When I got hooked, I was hooked thru and thru, big time!! :o

Wind It Up is a great song by Shorty Long. A revelation on this disc.

I know what you mean about hooked, Howard. When I'd walk in the record store...I mean RUN...my heart would race...like I was going to get my fix....

"Every Little Bit Hurts" is such a fantastic record.... Definite goose bump factor to it

It's hard to believe that Every Little Bit Hurts was released just 13 days after My Guy was released. Talk about a record label stacked with talent.

Exactly!!! I would get hyped up and look SO forward to getting to ANY store that sold 45s...and especially those that commonly stocked MoTown 45s!

@Glenpwood. Every Little Bit Hurts still stops me in my tracks as soon as I hear the intro to this song. What Does It Take by Jr Walker does the same thing to me.

Here comes the bloodshed: nearly 50 years later and I've never wavered in my view that "You're My Remedy" is a better record than "Where Did Our Love Go".
