As I recall this also does not take into account pre-Soundscan sales; so it minimizes the Supremes. In terms of cultural impact, the Supremes should be 1 or 2.

Luke - Thanks for starting this thread. I'm so far behind the times--I never thought anyone would outrank The Supremes. Your list from the NY Daily News was a big surprise to me. But things in the record word--as in everything--move fast and nothing stays the same.
