Methuselah2,
Doc was like a God to other songwriters, one of the most respected individuals in the music industry.

Nice of you to do this thread. Doc's daughter is a very dear friend of ours.

Here's an interesting article on DOC POMUS written by his daughter, Sharyn Felder:

LOL.....yes, Doc was truly a fasinating man.

He as once in love with Jimmy's sister-in-law but didn't know she was actually married to Jimmy's brother until years later when Jimmy told him. He professed his love for her in his journal. A fasinating read.

One of the best posts of this forum imho. What a master at his craft; just think, bound to a wheelchair and writing Save the Last Dance for Me. Um, um, um. Now I'm going to youtube to listen to STLDFM.

Last night, I had the sheer joy of seeing AKA DOC POMUS. What a film! I was not at all expecting the emotional, in-depth journey that was presented of Doc's remarkable self, his thoughts, his work, his effect on those around him and those who gravitated to him, his life, and the times of his life. The documentary is meticulously put together and veers away from nothing--how he felt about himself, how that infused his work, and what the songwriting business was like then. I found it relentlessly fascinating--like Doc himself. And it's all there in his words, his own voice. And those who knew him best. He seemed deeply sensitive and insightful but it doesn't seem he ever realized how dashing he really was. He was certainly a complex man and a lot of different things. But he had heart, and he seemed to effortlessly win the hearts of those who came into his sphere.

Do yourself a favor: Don't miss AKA DOC POMUS. "Doc, I feel better already."

Great review, Methuselah!

Jimmy's drummer was visiting us this week and wanted to see the film so I played it for him.
He was blown away and wanted his own copy, lol.
Yes, it is very emotional in places, no matter how many times I see it I tear up in certain places.
Doc was a brilliant minded person, soulful, and insightful, as welll as being the "songwriter's songwriter" as a mentor to so many others in the business.
Lou Reed who worshiped Doc, does the narration, reading from Doc's journals.
Sharyn & crew did a wonderful job in the way they put this film together!!!

Any music fan would love Doc's story.
