This is probably the first time I've seen this entire episode since it originally aired. The Supremes perform "Stop In the Name of Love".......LIVE!

I've seen the complete episode and some footage of the dress rehearsals where the Supremes looked different, it was their hair. I wonder why they decided to wear gloves for the telecast? It's a good performance of Stop!

Was this before or after their European tour that year?

It aired on 3/27/65, while the European tour was taking place. So it was taped at an earlier time.

However, it sort of shoots down the old story that there was no choreography for the song until the Tamla-Motown tour, and Diana barged into the men's room and asked the Tempts to give them some steps.

Didn't the choreography for this song constantly change? It was performed differently on each early television appearance.

It did.

THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE and READY STEADY GO choreography is similar, but not exact. Besides the STOP! pose, the moves for SHINDIG! and SHIVAREE! were different as well.

Was this the first time they performed the song on TV or was it Shindig?

The Supremes were very BORING when it comes to their choreography especially on "Stop! In the name of Love", watching clips of the Marvlettes and Martha and the Vandellas made me realize that the Supremes did very little in that department. I didn't think the Vandellas were that great of dancers but they at least made the effort and moved around a lot.

They really need to release collections of all the variety shows from that time period. It was so amazing, but now impossible to find.

SHINDIG aired first, 2/24/65.

I believe this episode of the Hollywood Palace was taped in February 1965 also. I remember the program well. It was on ABC and aired on Saturday nights.
