Howdy, my favorite "Nightflight" listeners!!
So.....FINALLY, starting tonight, I will be airing what is probably the greatest undertaking of Universal Music [[and probably the greatest undertaking of mine, too!)....The Complete Motown Singles!

Let me mention here that this multi-show celebration of Motown could only be accomplished because of the kindness and magnificent generosity of SDF's own Rossholloway who is known in real, true life as Bobby Gardner! Just to let you all know...I did think of this idea and asked UMe to help me out....and sadly they couldn't. But Bobby sought me out, without knowing my UMe attempt, and suggested the idea [[talk about KISMET), offering to share with us the 75% of the tracks I didn't have. So, Bobby....this set of shows is dedicated to you and your love for MOTOWN! Thank you so very much!

To be sure, the airing of The Complete Motown Singles will take more than 12 shows, and I couldn't find exactly how many tracks are in the complete collection. I will tell you that not every track will, or can be played, because that would take more than 35 shows. And after perusing the tracks on the first set airing tonight [[TCMS...1959-1961),
there are some that really shouldn't be played....[[I am not that much of a completist).

So....do join me tonight for MOTOWN...the Evolution...TCMS Part 1, 1959-1961...on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and se are streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org)

Thanks all! And Bobby....thank you for your trouble and for making this possible!
John

If there are more than 12 TCMSC shows, the earliest date for the last show should be mid-late December.
Traditionally, you have featured Christmas/holiday music on a few Nightflights prior to Dec. 25, so TCMSC should conclude/be interrupted either on Dec. 10 or 17.
TCMSC Vol 12 B is scheduled to be released on November 12.
Usually Harry Weinger and/or Andy Skurow and/or George Solomon join you online via phone hookup to premier the latest volume very close to the release date.
If the series is going to be presented sequentially might we expect a slight change in plans with a visit from the vault miners in mid-November? Or will we have to wait until after the New Year to hear from some of our favorite people?

Carole...thanks for keeping me on my toes!! TCMS will be aired sequentially by volume and by track [[although, as I said...not every track). When it comes to having Harry on the show to promote TCMS [[Harry produces the collection so he would speak about it), I spoke with him about it a few months ago and he was for it, although it was too early to be specific about when it would happen. So as the time for the release of Vol 12B gets closer, I'll contact him again to see what we can work out!

Hey Johnny, I am not a completist either and actually know very little about these early recordings except for the likes of Mary Wells and The Marvelettes, who were my focus when I started buying music in 1962. So this should be very educational. For me personally, I consider the height of the MoTown Sound to be from 1964 to 1969. Obviously there were good Motown records before and after that time frame, but for me that's the Motown Sound. See you and the Gang on the Radiola!

"Way Over There" [with strings] is probably the earliest record that I'd say had a Motown sound.

I like "I Want a Guy" by the Supremes [[though not as much as the Marvelettes' version) but I always thought someone went a little crazy with the flute in the background.
