I'm wondering if anyone at the time it was a bit cougarish of a 25 year old Diana to be singing "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" to a 19 year old Stevie Wonder.

Don't think so she's hardly older than him - a common occurrence I would think

The record had been a hit but the Tempts were booked elsewhere and couldn't make it to the Palace. :-}

Not too far away in age... She's like an older sister to him though. Always loved this performance.. Stevie's voice and harmonica is amazing, and Diane, well she is just fantastic and beautiful. [[both looks and voice)

Oh, and I forgot and Thomas reminded me, wasn't Stevie dating Diana's sister Rita around this time? He could have been Diana's brother in law had Syreeta not gotten him first.

As I recall Diana mentions something to Stevie about his willingness to sing with "an older woman" and he replies "Well, Mrs Robinson" For those of you that are of a younger age [[Not around in the late 1960's) the movie "The Graduate" had been quite the talk and success in 1968-69 and features a "cougar" Mrs Robinson [[Anne Bancroft) trying to seduce a young Dustin Hoffmann

Mrs. Robinson didn't just try; She got Ben in the sack. I saw The Graduate, which was released in 1967. By the time the episode of the Hollywood Palace aired with Diana and Stevie in 1969, most people had seen it, so they got the Mrs. Robinson reference.

I think Rita was already married to Tommy Gardner by 1969, and actually gave birth that year. Maybe she dated Stevie before that.

That was a great movie. And yeah, that's a real cougar. The age difference between her and Dustin Hoffman was much more than 6 years.

So basically the same age difference between Diana and Stevie.

I guess "cougar" aside; maybe it's just strange because of the relationship between Diana and Stevie; someone mentioned above they're like brother and sister....."I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" sounds a bit incestuous.
