The Record Shops

Manchester, England

Yes, Manchester was always ahead of it's time.

It had the best nightlife in the country and also the best record shops. The weekend wouldn't therefore just surround the all-nighter, there was also the serious business of uncovering some of those in-demand discs.

As the scene grew however, some dealers in other parts of the country, and indeed abroad, realised that there was a demand for these elusive sounds and the unsavoury and highly controversial practice of bootlegging began to emerge.

Serious collectors would always want the original however and this market would be dominated by the efforts of a guy from Glasgow;  sadly that guy wasn't me!
