...... Bobby Day tops the bill to sing his current hit "Rockin Robin" ......
whilst he also performed in his 'old guise' as half of Bob & Earl [[& the Satellittes) ..

Back to a Baltimore Royal Theatre show and a very decent line-up assembled in Feb 66 .......
... including a lady plugging her 1st Motown release which had just entered the national charts ...
Attachment 1253
Here's one for any big Shirelles fans out there ....
... & we're back down on the beach for this one ...

This is some amazing stuff, thanks JSmith! Love the posters, too. I see you can now buy some of them on Ebay.
I'll have my own ad for Ebay: Wanted: Used time machine, must work properly. Needed to transport me back to the 60's so I can catch Motown Revue shows.
Amazing what $2.50 to $5.00 could buy one back in the day -- five to eight top notch artists. That's just amazing.
RE: The Feb 4 - Feb 10th Baltimore Royal lineup @ jsmith's post:
I can tell y'all where Wayne Cochran & The C.C. Riders's [[pictured in the bill above, top right) next engagement was for the following week--at New York's Apollo Theater! It was the first time I ever went to the Apollo. Also on the bill that week were The Marvelettes [[headliners), Jackie Lee [["The Duck"), Deon Jackson [["Love Makes The World Go Around"). I was 10.
In light of the very last thing I said in the previous paragraph, here's another coincidence about that Baltimore Royal bill: my daughter [[obviously, my stepdaughter--LOL!!!) Kim was born exactly one year later from the day that the Baltimore Royal show opened!
Little did I know--LOL!!!
Charles
Mention made of Wayne Cochran ... so here he is again ....
Attachment 1256
King Curtis followed ... but where was the show ??
Moving south again & going back onto the Beach ....
.... an early show for the 'full compliment' Impressions ....
Attachment 1258
JB & the Impressions returned to build sandcastles a week later ....
... though this time they had a lot more 'friends' with them ......
Attachment 1306
A Motown fave plays a gig in the same city as the Wayne Cochran gig shown above ...
Attachment 1307
I wonder if the 'Four Platters' had any connection to the Musicor Records 'Platters' ?
Other 'visitors' up from the Motor City .......
Attachment 1308
They didn't just visit from Detroit ....
.. here's a NY based group who also played shows in the city ....
Attachment 1309
... and 9 months later, they were back ......
Attachment 1311
And another show in the same city .......
.... though this time the star ain't a US soul singer ....
Attachment 1315
Who was Lloyd Sims ??
I have him down as co-writer [[along with Roquel Davis) of Chuck Berry's "Too Pooped to Pop [aka "Casey"], but otherwise I never heard of him .....
.. certainly not as a singer / performer .......
Attachment 1317
Lloyd Sims released "I want To Know" in 1961,It hit #28 on the beach charts..
Another group that also headed up 'north of the border' ....
.... this very accomplished outfit were from Philadelphia ....
Attachment 1318
... I have no idea what became of their lead singer though !!!
Is that the same Rockhead in Montreal?
It is the Montreal club.
All 7 ads above these posts were for shows staged in Montreal [[as was Club Sahara).
Seems that Canadian audiences loved their soul [[& calypso/ reggae) acts in the late 60's & 1970.
Returning to another Baltimore show .....
... but once again its a Philly group ....
Attachment 1322
I enjoy looking at old newspaper ads, trade ads, posters, etc. Has anyone check out the Globe Posters website?
They were out of Baltimore and did all the great, colorful posters back in the 50s, 60s, 70s.
It may be at: www.globeposters.com
Still in Baltimore but 'back in time' again .....
... some Motown involvement this time ....
Attachment 1323
Here's an example of Globe Posters work ........
..... and its a most appropriate one ........
Attachment 1329
This thread has passed 2,700 views now ........
... so to celebrate I'll post another Motortown Revue poster ...
..... don't know how this one will go down though .....
Attachment 1330
A poster for a big revue show in 1967 ........
... who's that lurking near bottom left ? ....
Attachment 1332
Back to the Apollo where Mary topped the bill .........
Attachment 1336
Do you guys already have this one?
No real Motown artists on this Harlem bill .....
... but the Holidays were currently enjoying a 4 month stay on the charts ...
... and their label was about to be 'swallowed up' by Berry Gordy .....
... but the option on their contract wouldn't be taken up by Motown ...
Attachment 1338
Back to DC and a bill that was topped by Otis Redding ...
.... also featured those 'Sweet Things' the Spinners .....
Attachment 1344
They were a long way from home over Xmas 64 & New Years.
Post #147 of this thread featured a show on which the Capitol Records Soul Caravan appeared ........
.... here's a magazine article that deals with why the label instigated this revue package .......
Attachment 1348
The name of the female group on the Caravan was actually the Thrills !!!
Its a pity some other soul acts signed to Capitol at the time weren't also added to the revue line-up.
A 1969 concert in New York & on the impressive bill .....
.... was ex Motown artist Kim Weston ......
Attachment 1354
I guess those ladies of the Supremes would have been all over Jackie on this tour ....
Attachment 1359
Marvin heads the cast on this bill ....
Attachment 1362
Another old poster for a MotorTown Revue ....
Marvin goes clubbing .......
Did International Talent Management [[ITM) ever place adds such as this one to solicit bookings ....
January 1972 & just a matter of weeks after Damon Harris joined the Temptations
..... he heads back to his home town to play a gig .....
Attachment 1426
Damon Harris & his dad ........
Attachment 1430
JSmith, Jackie Wilson actually chaperoned the young Supremes briefly at one time.
And heres an ad for the above show ....
Mary Wells [[& others) in DC ........
The above poster must be from the late 60s! That's a late 60s photo of the Shirelles after Doris left in late '68. It is
a very old photo of Mary, but look at Ben E. King. Also, check out the price of tickets! It may even be from the
70s.
Also, it probably IS from the 70s as it is billed as Rhythm & Blues Oldies Concert.
If you look closely, the Shirelles photo in the above poster actually shows Doris, Micki, and Beverly. However, the photo is also cropped. The original photo shows all four members, including Shirley, who is seated in front of the other three.
The concert might have taken place during the period in the 70s when Shirley went on maternity leave, and Doris subbed for her. Or during the period when Doris took over for Shirley for good.
Its a while since I posted anything up on this thread ....
.... but this Florida show certainly qualifies ....
