One of the real, true unsung legends of Motown and a true gentleman! Mr. Robert Bateman. His was a big part of the Motown, Detroit music scene and will be truly missed. I met him back in the late 80s and we was gracious and easy to talk with. God bless Mr. Bateman. May he rest in power!

Many forget that Mr. Bateman had a hand in the Supremes history as well. He was there in the studio for the Supremes very first Motown recording.

Robert was one of my favourite producers and songwriters, and a very nice man. We will miss him. He was one of the founders of The Detroit Sound, and The Motown Sound.

We seem to be constantly waking up to similar pieces of bad news. RIP Robert, you'll never be forgotten.

This is a big loss. I remember Mr. Bateman attending and/or participating in just about every Motown related function in Detroit. He'd be right there in the audience to cheer on every Motown artist that came to town for concerts, etc. I was happy they did include him in the "Motown 25" television special during the songwriters segment.

I did not know that Sonny Sanders also of the Satintones had passed in the same week as Robert Bateman:

I was looking at a Red Bird PDF file on the internet and discovered that
Red Bird 10-037 If There's Anything Else You Want by Roddie Joy
was directed and arranged by Robert Bateman and Richard Wylie from
    1965.

There is a picture of it on page 44 of 75 in the attached file. I was unable to copy and paste the actual picture.

I did not realize he was involved with Red Bird. Interesting.

Wasn't he the "bert" in the songs credited to "Brianbert" [[the 'brian' being Brian Holland) in the early, early Motown days?

You're so right. I attended Mary's show at the Motor City Casino in 2012 and Mr. Bateman was there that night. I had the pleasure of meeting him and I shook his hand and thanked him for sharing his talent and music with us. He greeted everyone who approached him with the utmost kindness and appreciation. I could see he carried himself with much dignity and class. A true Motown legend. Rest in peace.
