Any Motown news for 2016 so far?

Happy New Year, all! Wondering...do we have any Motown CD reissues to look forward to in the first quarter...or is it too early to ask? It seems as if everything just stopped...

Is Scherrie definite? They've been announcing it for ages as well as a Flos cd

Rick Gianatos has been updating fans about Scherrie's CD on a regularl basis over the past several months, as recently as today's video shooting.

Steve Weaver has suffered serious health issues, but has released four new FLOS tracks on ITunes within the last month with four more promised in April.

This is a tough "business" financially, I am certain.

Hey, thank you for the good news, mysterysinger! I just pre-ordered my "CD" copy!

As noted elsewhere, now it's advertised on Amazon for release on 18th March 2016 - Motortown Revue In Paris Revisited. This is a 2 CD set with 31 tracks prices at £10.99.

I confess to being a little confused as to exactly what is what bearing in mind the Pledge CD set [[which I have on order but seems to have 29 tracks only), the Japanese set [[SHM CD with 31 tracks) and now this which seems to have a defaced cover bearing the word REVISITED:

I posted about this in the Rick James remaster thread but...I am really hoping that this is the year that the Mary Jane Girls' unreleased album finally sees the light of day! It's been a couple of years since it was promised....

The cover on Amazon has now lost the legend "Revisited" so back to the proper album cover. Still £10.99 but release date now 25th March 2016.

I haven't been there personally but I do see it on street view of google maps. I suppose it could have closed since the google picture was taken, but Motown Dessert's most recent website posting was just a few days ago. Does this link work?

Amazon US still lists the release date as March 11, 2016 with a price of $22.99.

  32. #32
$22.99 is more like £16.52 not £21.99 Why are we Brits being charged so much more? Seems a bit odd.

  33. #33
I'll see if I can manage a trip to Bethnal Green Road next week. I was at Portobello Road a couple of months ago, but never saw any shops with a Motown logo.

The Amazon price for Bobby Darin is probably anticipating an adverse foreign exchange movement owing to Brexit.

  34. #34
The cafe in Potobello road was, as I recall, at the opposite end to where most antique shops and stalls were.
Excellent photos and memorabilia... Motown, Northern Soul etc...and 45s on the wall..the kind of place I'd have when/if I win the lottery.
Perhaps it was all a wonderful dream.

John, when this release is finally confirmed by Amazon UK the price will drop [[as they always do). I can't see us paying more than a Tenner for this on release day!

Mick.....I hope you're right. You usually are!

  37. #37
Well maybe they read this forum because the price has started to come down - they've knocked a whole quid off and it's now £20.99.

Strange thing regarding Motown The Musical CDs as there appear to be 2 versions. You can have 12 Classic Songs that Inspired the Musical for £4.99 or 40 Classic Songs that Inspired the Musical for £8.99. But - you've already got these tracks of course.

Well, I got this notice from Amazon US this morning:
Unfortunately, the release date for the item[[s) listed below has changed, and we need to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:

Bobby Darin "Another Song on My MindThe Motown Years [[2-CD Set)"
Estimated arrival date: May 06, 2016

So, there you go. I wonder if it will get postponed again?

"Another Song On My Mind - The Motown Years" - Bobby Darin. The UK release date is still 13th May 2016 according to Amazon, but the pre-order price has reduced again to £19.81.

Hi friends, the release date for Bobby Darin's "Another Song on My Mind: The Motown Years" is set for May 6 in the U.S. and May 13 in the U.K., to coincide with what would have been Darin's 80th birthday in May. We've recently published full, updated details on the release at The Second Disc which I hope you'll all check out:

    http://theseconddisc.com/2016/03/10/...-coming-may-6/

I know the phrase is overused, but this project has been a real labor of love for everybody involved. It's been a privilege to celebrate the enormous legacies of both Bobby Darin and Motown Records as a producer and annotator of this release. I hope it's worth the wait, and that you all enjoy!

    Joe Marchese

I am puzzled. Is there no actual soundtrack album from the play?

Joe, a set like this has been on my want list for so long that people laughed at me when I mentioned it. I wait, but not patiently, for this release. I can't get it into my hot little hands fast enough! Thanks for keeping this project alive and getting it out to us - May cannot come fast enough!

Yes, there is an Original Broadway Cast recording done with the cast of the Broadway production. This was released in a one CD format and Target stores released it as an exclusive with two extra tracks. The Classics That Inspired CD's were also issued at the same time and contain the original recordings of songs featured in the show.
