Oh, so it was down to nursery rhymes, and short-sightedness.
Oh, so it was down to nursery rhymes, and short-sightedness.
As are most disputes between otherwise reasonable people...
And quite often marriages, too.
Now that's just getting deeper and deeper... I need to put it into a self-help book.
Wouldn't self-help books be of more use to unmarried people?
Maybe more to recently unmarried people...? They would be great parting gifts from their exes.

It seems sad being unable to help yourself, just by helping yourself.....

I can't help myself. But I'm a fan of the Four Tops.
Aren't we all.....?
We all have somebody who thinks we suck. Somebody, somewhere, somehow once had the nerve to suggest that there was something about the Tops that they hated. I imagine that the person who heard it either smacked him or drove him home to sleep off his very drunken state.
I would have smacked him. I too am a fan of the Four Tops.
Well then somebody[shake me wake me]when this post is over.
[[We'll just have to leave you to sleep it off across the back seat of the bus, then - as this whole thread has some mileage in it yet....)
On the topic of people who think we suck....
Every negative remark I ever heard came from an unhappy person, who just wanted their feelings to be known.

And since misery loves company, God forbid others have fun while that person sits in his own funk alone. Don't rain on my parade when all you needed was an umbrella to enjoy your own.
It's a tricky one. We should be able to share good and bad, but others we might approach do have their own 'bad' and don't want to have any more dumped on them, if they can avoid it. That, of course, doesn't help anyone else from feeling bad, and probably also lonely and uncertain, especially if they have no-one to talk to about it....

Bummer. Now I'm depressed...
For some reason, the successful comet landing has cheered me up no end.
Jerry....on the face of it, we are here to celebrate the music of Motown and Detroit....and we are all happy and upbeat most of the time.
I do have a feeling that the real reason why each individual is here, and the reason why the threads and the posts can seem to drift off centre, will often have some link with members trying to make the best of life, while living with depression, loneliness and isolation. That can often go unnoticed, which is concerning.
144man....yes, the successful comet landing is indeed something to celebrate. A real achievement.

The comet landing is a horrible development! Now they'll know where we are...
I've often wondered about that. They keep talking about shuttles into outer space, but someone or some thing, from somewhere, may get to us first.
I'm stoopid enough to be a man of faith [[albeit a proud heretic) who shakes his head at those who believe in the traditional concepts of extraterrestrial life. We believe what we believe, though. C'est la -
I mean, whatever, Yo.
You all talk funny i need a drink.
There might indeed be 'something out there' - even if it is just hooch.
If you're talking about intelligent life, l'm not 100% sold that there's anything down here.
Looking for people we feel to be on our level, to whom we can relate, can indeed seem to be a never-ending journey.....
Any intelligent life elsewhere in the universe will be so far away it would take millennia to reach us.
I agree. I also believe that the films and books with humanoid or animatronic aliens do a disservice to the idea that we are not alone. Why wouldn't life from a distant world be a being in a gaseous or solid and immobile state? It could be a thought or a scent, for all that we know.
And why would they travel thousands of light years to come here? Is there any reason to believe that they'd use rockets or flying saucers in their travels? They could be as big as mountains or as small as ants. The lackadaisical application of imagination in common themes regarding intelligent life irritate me for some reason.
I'm not discounting whether there is life or the possibility of life somewhere else, just that I'm sick of watching little green bug-eyed men stepping out of flying saucers with ray guns in their hands and it leaves me wanting to slap somebody.
[[Jerry steps off his soapbox and pours himself a drink...)
Of course there's life outthere..i've sold em stuff ya know.
That was before you landed here. "And so you're back, from outer space...."
And I agree with Jerry. Intelligent life elsewhere is always portrayed from the human perspective. Well, the creators want to entertain other humans, of course.
The reality would be beyond our natural comprehension. Completely and literally alien to us. Interesting, as many other humans already have that effect on me....
Just don't let them probe you...
Too late....
Well, these things they happen, I guess...
Especially during airport security checks.
Yeah. I'd bet aliens get their ideas for new and more invasive personal violation from airport security.
What makes the whole situation worse is that the procedures seem even more necessary now, than ever before.
Many of my countrymen have short memories. They complain about both the aftermath of terror and reasonable steps to prevent it.
That complacency just makes it easier for terrorism to prevail.
It sure does. I predict the absolute end to what we consider to be our civil liberties within 20 years. We're just waiting for the bad guys to do what nobody thought any human to consider doing before the game changes and Camelot comes to a crashing halt.
And it will happen sooner than anyone suspects.
One day, someone will be incredulous that we all have the opportunity to move around today, at will.
You're right. And at some point, walls will be built and the global ideal of community, if not shared economies, will be gone.
We may not be speaking to our neighbours, but we could all still be the best of friends on the internet.
And that's why it's too late for walls to work. Plots are being forged among conspirators in different countries who may never be in each other's presence.
Oh well, perhaps smaller, personal communities will thrive. Human nature has a unique way of adapting to current challenges and needs. I'm looking on the bright side
It's never as bad as it seems... Just worse than it used to seem.
