The experts are still divided on whether there is a link between gum disease and heart disease.
The experts are still divided on whether there is a link between gum disease and heart disease.
My dentist tells me that gum disease increases the likelihood of heart disease, but I'd say it's more likely the other way around. Anyway, he knows not to start an argument when his fingers are in my mouth.
144man, I don't like the sound of your dentist at all!
And I'm glad I don't have the worries of being a dentist. It's a very hand to mouth existence.
I believe your dentist, westgrand!
My dentist does also agree it could be the other way around, and that the information is being circulated to promote the interests of the dental profession. It's unlikely that heart specialists are advising their patients to give the same priority to their gums.
There must be very many people who have a tendency towards gum disease to some degree, [[or who may, as a result, have had all their original teeth replaced) but who don't have heart disease, and likely never will.
That said, keeping the heart and the gums healthy is important, even if they are not inter-dependent.
I think any link must be a direct result of a severe problem, and that the overall cause would be an ongoing combination of unsuitable diet and general personal neglect over years.....
I personally knew a person who had gum disease and because of it ended up receiving a new aortic valve.
OK moe, but how was it proved that the need for a new aortic valve was a direct result of gum disease?
Fortunately, I don't have gum disease or heart problems, so don't have a personal issue either way - just curious....
Poor oral hygiene [[untreated gum disease) can lead to it, westgrand. He let his gum disease go untreated for a period of time. He ended up with a new aortic valve [[the bacteria spread). I am not the only one who knows this.
moe, of course some people will think it to be true, but they can't know it as an absolute fact.
The report I read appears to say that American Heart Association journal 'Circulation' [[2012) now feels there is no evidence of a 'causal' link, and that it very often is 'coincidental' [[somewhat ironic use of word there, I thought...!), and that further research is needed. I think I also read that there is the possibility of pneumonia being linked. They'll go on and on, for ever...
One thing is for sure - bacteria building up anywhere in the body is not good. Septicaemia for a start and, often, an end.
I thought of you this morning, moe, when I was cleaning my teeth. When I had finished, I then jumped up and down, just to see if my heart was still beating.
Oh yes, I did. It's true, no lie! Floss my heart, and hope not to die....

I stand by it.......do you believe everything you read?
I have a healthy scepticism.
Rude health is generally preferable to being a polite invalid......
There's nothing ruder, westgrand.........
Speaking of 'rude', Evinrude the helpful dragonfly from 'The Rescuers' would work to the point of exhaustion, but which then seemed to be quickly remedied by a nip of something liquid, thought to be moonshine.
I wonder if you're thinking what I'm thinking.....
Of course
If I'm thinking what you're thinking, does that mean we're single-minded?
Sounds like we'd be considered 'unanimous' [[although I wonder - is there such a description as 'double-minded' - ?)
So, what I was thinking was.....it wasn't moonshine, just that Evinrude was taking a nip of this hooch we've heard mentioned, and often.
Which leads me to wonder if perhaps arrr&bee lives in Disney World......
The Magic Kingdom!!!
Is that where Magic Mushrooms originated?
Could be. It's a small world after all.
Disney World is definitely inhabited by strange creatures, such as female mice and ducks walking around in high-heeled shoes...
Yes, and I have the photos to prove it.
It must be something in all those burghers.
....and we have R&B as evidence gentlemen........
If I were asked to put a face to that name, the irrepressible Jiminy Cricket comes to mind.....
I refuse to answer on the grounds I'll get killed!!!
Best run for cover, now....
Is anybody looking?
Only if you think they are..otherwise, keep stepping....

Always good to hear that one!
On The Marvelettes Facebook page, Katherine said that The Marvelettes never sang backup for anyone else. Katherine should know better than the rest of us but, every time I hear Carolyn Crawford's 'Keep Stepping', those background harmonies on "ooo, ooo ooo, ooooooooo, ooo" sound very familiar to me......
It's possible. Both "Keep Stepping" and the Marvelettes' similarly-styled "Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead" shared the completion date of 2nd June, 1965.

Also, Cellarful of Motown VOl 2 note reads 'assigned to Vandellas, Marvelettes dub-in on 2 June 1965, Carolyn Crawford dub-in later the same day on 2 June 1965'.....
Martha & Vandellas' version of "Keep Stepping" wasn't completed until May 1966. It's not on youtube, so I can't post it here to compare the backing track.
I always think of "Keep Stepping", "Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead" and Martha & Vandellas" "You've Been In Love Too Long" [[completed 13th June 1965) as being three parts of a trilogy.

Good stuff! Might as well come out of hiding for a bit. Going undercover again, though for: FOOTBALL WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is that proper football played with the foot or that strange deviant offshoot that you use your hands for?
Now, does that sound like fighting talk to you, moe?!
Then I guess I am a deviant!!!!!!!!!
Guess so, but let's just call it 'alternative', before there's a riot somewhere....!
As Judy Carne said in Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In in the Now folks, It's Sock It To Me Time segment, "It may be football to you, but it's soccer to me. Soccer to me! Soccer to me! Soccer to me!".
That's clever....
And, speaking of alternatives, Judy Carne's real name is Joyce Audrey Botterill......
"Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" used to be the highlight of my TV week.
The only show where a president of the US appears [[i.e. Richard Nixon: "sock it to me.")
You know what, 144man? If American football is so "deviant" then how do you explain all those riots at the soccer stadiums?
Just teasing. The only deviance is in the name as the foot isn't used all the time like in soccer [[with exceptions).
The reason for the riots is simple - testosterone. The adolescent male of any animal species is dangerous.
Very true, but also true of some of the females, when in a pack, particularly if alcohol has been consumed.
However, there is then a tendency for them to become more of a danger to themselves, than to others.
Just like their male counterparts, westgrand..............
We all need to look out for ourselves, and be vigilant....but yes, it can be a bit of a bore at times, can't it.....
Vigilant..........ah yes...........it seems some suffer from a lack of it.
Of course, over vigilance isn't good either. For example, like checking you've locked the front door.
And then checking it again, three times.....
I call that a middle aged moment
I call it a SENIOR moment when it happens to me!
It generally happens when I'm doing one thing, like locking a door, but my mind is on something else for a moment, so I go back to check.....
