Living in the south, I kind of expect most whites to be racists. It's part of the history here, feel me? I know not all whites think in racist terms. But racism is alive and well in 2013. Things have gotten worse rather than better. When we first moved to Memphis, there was just white folk and black folk, very few Asians, a few Middle Easterners and that was it. Some whites tended to intermingle or socialize with Blacks. We ate at the same restaurants, went to the some of the same events, lived in the same communities. But as Memphis has become more culturally or racially diverse, those old attitudes and segregation have reappeared in some people.
