    HAPPY 50th ANNIVERSARY!!

As you know, S.S., I much prefer the early Manhattans with "Smitty" on lead. However, there's no taking away their staying power as one of the great soul groups.

Congratulations to the Manhattans, one of my very favorite male vocal groups.

I didn't listen to the Manhattans until "Kiss and Say Goodbye" became a hit [[I'm "just" 50 myself, LOL), so I'm much more familiar with Gerald Alston than Smitty. With that said, they have been a fantastic group for such a long time [[as long as I've been alive...) and deserve all the praise they can gather. I can't even pick a favorite song or album because there are so many to pick from.

To one of the greatest groups ever.....the Manhattans! Happy 50th Anniversary!

It's like Smokey said..."Time flies when you're having fun"
It seems like just yesterday, I saw them at the Apollo, five young men who had a unique sound and some of the faciest foot work of any group.
Then I blinked......and 50 years went by. Boy, that was quick.
Thank you Manhattans. You have indeed been with me in some form or fashion from "I wanna be", all the way to "men cry too."
Looking forward to the next 50.

    Tallone,
Don't forget all their great shows at the Brooklyn Albee & Breevort Theaters, we were probably there at the same time, lol....!!

    Smooth,
Glad you enjoyed them. Those were the days of witnessing some very special live shows upclose.

I've been a Manhattans fan since Follow Your heart , "I Call It Love" & Its Gonna Take a Lot and so many more, they have withstood the test of time and still swinging. Love them, they reside in my top ten of all time vocal groups........

    That's great Paladin!
Now you know you are dating your self like me. Nothing like the sweet soul music of the 60's.

    Hey Sis.....
Yes, I'll never forget those shows at the Brevoort of the Albee in Brooklyn. Not to mention the fact that we were there at the same time, I'm sure. Besides, if memory serves me correctly, you used to hang on Fulton St, around the corner from Brevoort Place, where I used to live.
@Paladin...I feel you good brother. They are in my top 5.

    Hey Brother tallone,
Yep, you know... Fulton between Spencer & Bedford across from the Fulton Bar where Addie lived. I wonder what became of her, we lost touch in 1969.
Hanging at James Brown's house in St. Albans, going to all the shows, backstage hanging with Jackie Wilson and everybody, the theaters, the clubs, what fun times those days were. Who knew, looking back now, lol. The days of Chitlin` Circit and chitlin` dinners!!
    Love You!

Tallone and Soul Sister, true that ! dating myself only makes it better, I've been supporting this group on vinyl and attending their shows for as long as I've been a music fan. They are simply the best. To paraphrase Ol Blue Eyes.......its been some very good years.....

I'll date myself like the rest of you guys. Congratulations to an amazingly talented group.

Love, love the Manhattans especially when Smitty was the lead. My all time favorite, "To Bring Me Back". Don't get me wrong, I like Gerald Alston's voice but there is just something about Smitty's plaintive delivery that gets me every time.

So true {{{Nosey}}}! The tear in Smitty's voice in need of love.

Ahhh...Smitty. Now he is one to be remembered. He had a style that was all his own. I guess today you would all it "swag." The way he could phrase a song was unbelievable. For thos who never heard him, you are missing a treat. For those who never got to see him perform, all I can say is "wow."
