I've been enjoying Ace's/STAX UK's Sweet Sweetheart... by Memphis' only soul queen of all time. It's an issue of a shelved Stax album produced by Chips Moman at American Studios. She's got to be simply amazed that this album has finally been released. It also features other previously unreleased songs by Carla and the Stax crew.

I am pretty sure I have the Darlene Love version. Carla also recorded Good, Good Lovin'. Interesting you bring up Dusty. Chips Moman was trying to get a pop record out of Carla that was influenced by Dusty In Memphis.

I have a video clip of her singing "I Loved You Like I love My Very Life", and I agree, it should have been a MAJOR hit, so perfect in every way.

    Hey Kam!
I have wonderful video footage of Carla singing with Jimmy on his "[[I'm Afraid) The Masquerade Is Over", it's a killer duet!!

it is simply amazing to me that Carla Thomas was not only a bigger Star overall but a bigger Soul star. I think a lot of it might have to do with the fact that she was going to college a lot of the time that her records were hitting & didn't go out on the road very much. Anyone know? I mean I have the Charts and I thought a lot of her records were bigger then they actually were.

Interesting that Phil Spector recorded the Crystals on Carla's "Gee Whiz" on their first lp, Twist Uptown. Later Carla recorded his songs, including a version of the Crystals' "Little Boy".
